I was starting my day very serenely, looking out the window and watching Norman the squirrel. Just enjoying a nice morning experience. My daughter comes in, and I see what she has in her hand. It's a memo from Housing. As you may recall my last post about Housing was about the maintenance never showing up. They had sent a memo saying they would be out September 22nd to do some maintenance in getting ready for our annual inspections. (Those that haven't happened to date by the way). It's so great when they send these out and then never show up. And with no explanation. So, I was simply thrilled (NOT) to get another memo. OMG! This time it says they will be coming out in a week to do a treatment for bed bugs. My skin began to crawl. I remembered back to when we actually had them (personally not as a complex) about 7-8 years ago. It was a very traumatic experience They are very hard to get rid of and I hated it so.
The fun part of the memo was the second page. A 14-step list of the 'prep' we have to do to be ready for them to come to treat the place for the imagined bed bug infestation we don't have. We have to remove all clutter. Remove clothes from closets, dressers, etc. Nightstands and dressers have to have everything removed. It all has to be put in tightly sealed bags. Vacuum all rooms thoroughly, do away with bag. (DUH). And we need to call them and let them know how many beds and what size beds we have so they can provide covers for each one. We have to leave for the 2 hours it takes.
We don't have them. They make you itch and you can see them along the mattress seams and such. We have a sh *T load of clothes and stuff we have to move to accommodate what they are wanting us to do.
Doesn't all this seem a bit extreme? Plus, we have nowhere to go! And I am housebound. I feel like I am being harassed. Last time when they did a cockroach treatment, we had to move all of the furniture and whatever out away from the walls. We didn't leave then and won't this time.
What a great gift to be given on this my special day of the year. It's my 74th birthday for Pete's sake. Thanks again Housing for your continued try at driving me bizerk.
I have lived here for 20+ years, and Housing letters and memos always start my anxiety growing. I get the shakes and really have to calm myself. I hate it so. We are always just one well worded letter away from homelessness and so their communications make me very nervous indeed.
Yes, we can only do the best we can to prepare. Yes, I will calm myself. I always do. I just get so very tired of it all. This post is just my way of letting loose of the negatively and getting on the way to calming myself. Thanks so reading.
I hope you folks are having a good day.

Happy birthday. Did they at least put a bow sticker on the memo?

I am so sorry you will have to go through this...I can tell you that in most every state, it is mandatory that you have to leave for bedbug treatments. You may want to find out, just in case.
