Consequences of Fall & Winter

Dry skin! That is something that comes up every winter for me, but it starts in official fall weather. Of course, staying hydrated and drinking water is the main thing you want to do, but also moisturizing is something to do to keep dry, itchy, or cracked skin away from you. I like to use Gold Bond with Collagen for my hands, arms, etc., and CeraVe for my face. Another consequence? A lot of people have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) due to reduced daylight. Several Mylotters use “happy” lights or lamps, and they all say it helps with SAD depression. I actually got one free, but have never used it. What are some other consequences? Colder weather bother you? Tell me all about it. Any things you actually like…the holidays?

For me it's dry eyes because of the heating and the cold outside. The holidays used to be a wonderful time, it's a bitter sweet time now.

Oh, dry eyes are a good one to mention. I’m sorry they are bittersweet now.

@AmbiePam - Dry eyes are so annoying, particularly when you open your eyes at night. Well, I will try to make the holidays a nice moment.

With hyperthyroidism, my skin is always itchy, no matter if I use creams/lotions or not. My skin doesn't normally peel unless I get sunburned, though. I just don't want to drive if there is snow or ice on the roads. I don't WANT to go outside in the cold, either, but will if there's some place we NEED to get to. Pretty gets depressed in cold weather but the doctor said that's natural for some people. The happy lights don't help her. She was just prescribed "happy shots". I hope those work for her.

I hate itching. What will finally drive me to allergy medicine is the eventual itching. Sinus pressure too, but oh, the itching gets to me. I’m sorry you have to deal with that.

@AmbiePam Allergy meds don't help with the itching. I will take them if I get a rash or if I can't breathe. I am trying something a doctor told me; instead of scratching when you itch, try gently patting the skin instead. I admit, sometimes it works. Other times it doesn't and I will start scratching. Thanks.

I usually enjoy colder weather but if U am physically cold, I do not enjoy it. Since I never have my heat high, my hands get cold in here sometimes.

Dry skin does bother me and I oil my body before a bath and stop applying body wash.

That makes sense. I tend to use moisturizing body wash.

When you live in a tropical country, you really appreciate the blast of cold air which sometimes comes down from the North.

I have no use for winter or the colder months. Give me my summer. I need to start going tanning on my break at work. It is right around the corner so I can conceivably do a 12 minute session and get back in 40 minutes. I've had 2 periods off back to back which made the whole thing less stressful. That is not the case this year though.
