U S Coast Guard rescue five persons who were aboard a life raft in North Carolina

Members of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) answered an emergency call from persons who left their sailboat that was taking on water 260 miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras North Carolina on Thursday November 6.
The five persons entered a life raft when the USCG stationed in Cape Hatteras sent a helicopter to locate the life raft and then rescue the five persons aboard the helicopter to Coast Guard Air Station in Elizabeth City where the conditions of the five persons rescued was that they were in good condition after they were rescued by the USCG.

It was good that the five persons were rescued, but I wonder how often they check over their boat for problems, as this should not happen to a boat in good condition.
