It's Unfair to Withhold Food Stamp (SNAP) Benefits to Needy Americans

The latest news out of Washington Sunday is enough Democrat Senators have voted to finally reopen the government. But why did this have to happen? Why did Democrats vote "no" for so long, preventing needy citizens from getting their SNAP (food stamp) benefits? Although MSNBC and other mainstream media outlets will have you believe the government shutdown was the fault of the White House it really was "Schumer and the Democrats Shutdown." Let me explain why... The last time a vote was taken in April enough Dems did not vote to shut down the government. The Republicans have not made additional changes to Obamacare or new demands to that passed bill. Now, the Dems decided they want to renegotiate Obamacare using the shutdown and "U.S. citizens as a pawn" to get their way. What changed... When the Democrats were in control during the Biden Administration, they passed a bill extending health care (Obamacare) subsidies for "only 3 years." That government money is set to expire in December. Republicans, believe that the country can't afford the $1.5 trillion "ransom" that Democrats demand to continue Obamacare subsidies. They are open to discussing fixing ACA, after the government reopens, which the media failed to report. So, uninformed Americans believe Trump and his administration is to blame. A huge portion of the government subsidies that go toward the Obamacare program are paid to the insurance companies to keep this "failing program" going. As a matter of fact, demanding even more government money would give a bailout to insurance companies totaling $350 billion plus interest. The government cannot keep doling out money "like a slot machine" to rescue a bad Democrat health plan. Furthermore, there are some illegal immigrants receiving healthcare under the Obamacare program. That is a fact! This is unacceptable and the Dems are prioritizing migrants who are in our country illegally and receiving benefits over poverty level citizens who need their food stamps to eat. That Schumer is playing political games demanding that ACA (Obamacare) subsidy extensions continue or else, when people are in need of food is heartless. I thought the Democrats were the party who cares for those lower income citizens. Instead, their throwing a "hissy fit." And Schumer still voted "no" this Sunday wanting to continue the shutdown because he might lose his leadership position or maybe his job. He could care less about hungry Americans. Let me reiterate. You don't hold the country hostage by voting to shut down the government because you demand more money for a failing program (ACA). The Republicans offered to discuss with the Democrat leader's solutions to improve Obamacare after the government reopens. Why didn't Democrat leader Schumer accept the olive branch immediately and negotiate? Now that an agreement has been tentatively reached to reopen the government, still "40 Dem senators" voted "no." This is not the Trump Administration's fault. ***Thankfully those relying on SNAP benefits will no longer go hungry. The Republicans were always on board to pass the CR to keep the government open, and after the Democrat senators voted 14 times against funding the government, 8 Dem senators have come to their senses. Just in time for Thanksgiving turkey. After all, these "turkeys" did not want to jeopardize having their holiday flights cancelled due to the shutdown. Yep, that's really where most Dems priority lies, not feeding those in need just trying to maintain some, any, political control. And of course, they count on your hatred of Trump to believe it's not their fault! Photo- You Tube

Trump isn't perfect. No person is. But, because he's the President, and wasn't into politics.... like at all... until he ran for ofice and won his first term, people want to hate and blame him. He may be the president, he may be the so-called man in charge.... but if you ever paid attention in any civics class, or I don't know high school govornment.... you'd know our society isn't run by just one man and there's a lot of checks and balances and voting power that has to happen. It's congress, and majority parties you really have to worry about. And, to thenk my parents were hard-core demicrats their entire lives.

Yes, that's right simple civics class. Some people are ignorant of how government runs. Many people are not interested or don't care about politics or what is happening in the world today. So, these people can be easily manipulated by the media because they don't bother to fact check what they hear or read. In addition, these same people are swayed by their emotions rather than reality. And regarding your comment on the Democrats. This quote from a top Democratic House leader, Mrs. Kathryn Clark says a lot. "Of course, there will be families that are going to suffer... but it is one of the few leverage times we have." The Democratic party in a nutshell. The heck with the citizens...

They have come to a vote to reopen the Government, but for how long? I guarantee it will close down again at the end of January when the vote comes back up.

No argument here. Dems and Reps fight like cats and dogs. And any policy supported by Trump even if it helps Americans the Dems will oppose. And a panel on MSNBC idiots are upset some Dems voted to reopen the government because they feel it helps Trump. So, they are not concerned about people going without food just getting the better of Trump.

We really have to get back to the media giving it to us straight. It really does have an impact on the American psyche AND on elections. The hard part is actually holding the press accountable, because of course the 1st Amendment is such an important thing. At the end of the day the American people need the truth. Not narratives. That aside, I still think there's a bigger story here. And that's why we have 42 million people needing benefits in the first place. But of course, that's for another day.

You raise a very important point. Why is it that every time the Trump Administration wants to look into fraud in government programs the left/Democrats raise holly heck to stop them. It's not racist or a threat to Democracy to save taxpayers money! The mainstream media is hopelessly biased. I do think all the Trump lawsuits against various news networks who have lied about their coverage of him have had some effect.

@dgobucks226 The fact of the matter is that we have nearly $38 trillion in national debt and a deficit that runs about $1.5 trillion a year. At some point we HAVE to rein that in and get a handle on it. And we KNOW (even Democrats) that there has been massive waste, fraud and abuse since the beginning of time, because on both sides we've all talked about it. We've all complained about it. At the kitchen table. In company break rooms. In line at the grocery store. We ALL know the government wastes money by the crap ton. Now someone wants to come in and REALLY take a close examination of it and try to figure out where the money is going and what the actual benefits of all that spending is, and people are pissed about that? In what world? On what planet? It doesn't make any sense. And of course, the Democrats, all they want to do is keep spending more to gain votes and then always want to tax, tax, tax their way out of everything. They paint this false picture that the rich don't pay their fair share while ignoring that 70% of ALL tax revenues are collected from the top 10% in this country, and 50% of the entire population pays no taxes at all. The problem isn't that not enough taxes are collected. The problem is we spend too much, and we don't follow the money once it leaves The Hill. And to put icing on the whole damn cake, the media lies and stretches truths and makes innuendo instead of just being honest about all of this with the American people—and that's their JOB! To be the eyes and ears of the People so that the government can't just do what it wants and get away with it, or paint what they do in false light, but to check and balance things so when the American people go to the polls to vote, they can know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are with actual facts to back that up. It's just all so crazy to me. As for the lawsuits, I have mixed feelings about them. But at the same time, I think you're right. It IS holding more people accountable to tell the truth or be more cautious about how they spin things. We don't want to get to a point where media is stifled, and of course we want to be careful about which "power" decides what the truth is—I mean, take the whole idea behind "fact checkers." A lie is a lie and a truth is a truth depending on who you ask who's "checking" the facts. Anyway...I'm rambling again. lol
