This is much better!

nut crackers, walnut, vice, kitchen, appliance

So after I managed to somehow break the nut crackers, I said to my partner I might have to resort to using the vice. He thought I was joking… I took the bag of walnuts to the garage, and a little tub for the contents, and used the vice to crack them open. The results were so much better than the regular nut crackers! Often with nut crackers the shell will only break on one side, then you have to struggle to get the kernel out, or else try to break the other side without mashing up the exposed part. Or the whole thing will break up. Or little pieces of shell will break off and get mixed into the bits of nut. It can be quite a feat to actually extract an intact nut. Well this worked like a charm. The nuts came out whole and perfect every time, except one that came out in two halves. No need to try and prise little bits from among the remnants of shell. I’m a convert. Every kitchen should have one! The only catch is that a vice is not all that portable… All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2025.

Good for you. There is always more than one way to skin a cat as they say. (I wonder where that saying came from? I haven't heard it in years. It wouldn't go down well in today's society )

I couldn't believe it worked so well! Somewhere I have a tiny vice that you clamp onto a table top. I'm going to look for it and bring it into the kitchen.
