A new use for a drive-in theatre

There are many talented people scattered throughout Western Australia and one of them resides in the central wheatbelt area. She is responsible for some lovely murals, mostly of native Australian birds and wildflowers. The photo shows one of her efforts which adorns the no-longer-operating (obviously) drive-in theatre. We saw a great many pink and grey galahs around Mukinbudin where this photo was taken as well as other birds. What annoys me a bit about birds is that we hear the most beautiful bird songs while we’re camping but we can never manage to see which birds sing which songs.

That's a beautiful picture! We have a drive-in here. It's open from spring until late fall. Pretty and I used to go watch movies on the weekends but stopped when I started having trouble seeing to drive after dusk.

@JudyEv I don't know how many of them in the US are still operating.

There aren't many drive-ins here that operate regularly.

That’s really beautiful and making good use of something which isn’t being used any more. I am shocking at identifying birdsongs ….

One country town has resurrected its drive-in and has movies about once a month.

@Traceyjayne Most of ours all closed quite some years ago. I think there are still about three still open and sometimes a pop-up screen goes up somewhere.

@JudyEv we don’t really have drive ins in the UK…..very occasionally in a park they will put up a screen for a special film or event ….but it’s not a regular thing.

They must be really cool to see in person.

This is a great usage of an old drive-in-theater. It's very hard to know which bird is singing which song, I always have the same problem.

@JudyEv - I can hear birds singing here, but I only spotted a few.

Some of the birds sing a lot but they're really hard to find in the foliage.

What a cool idea for the old movie screen.

It has turned an eyesore into something attractive.

That's amazing work. I get sad when I see a drive-in no longer in operation.

It's a shame to see these once-popular venues all closed up.
