Many of you may know Loretta Lynn through @FourWalls’ wonderful discussions but I needed something to put with this photo which I took at the Country Music Muster. I probably knew but had forgotten that Loretta, the country music singer, married at 15 and had six children. She and her husband were married for almost fifty years which is a pretty good record for show business. The singer in the photo was originally from the north of England but, although she has lived in Australia now for many years, she still has a trace of an accent. However, when she sings Loretta Lynn or Patsy Cline songs, the American accent is very authentic. She would practise the accent when shopping or whatever and said she was over the moon when a Texan tourist asked her what part of Texas she was from.

I mean, one famous country singer, who is Australian, comes to mind, and that's Keith Urban. When I first learned he was Australian, I truly was shocked by that.

Here, he is almost as well known for being Nicole Kidman's husband but they've divorced now I think.

@JudyEv Yeah, I think they did divorce. Few people in the "limelight" stay married.

She was indeed. @FourWalls has put up a link to her singing 'Sweet Dreams (About You)'.

Thanks for the shout out. Getting married that young wasn't abnormal "back then." That was an improvement over colonial days, when minimum age for girls was 12. I had to look this lady up (Moira J. Scott), and she's AMAZING.

I was too lazy to go back to the program to get Moira's name but we thought she was very good. I'm glad you enjoyed her too. Thanks for the link. You might also like to look up Alison Joy Poulton who has done a three-year stint as Loretta Lynn in a stage show entitled (I think) The Coal-Miner's Daughter.

Congratulations to her to be able to sing with an authentic Texan accent. It's impossible to lose our native accent. As soon as I start to speak, people know I am from Milan.

@JudyEv - Australian accent is more close to British accent than American accent. In the US I was often asked if I was British, except in the deep south where they asked if I were from California.

@LadyDuck That's interesting. Some of the British accents are very strong and people never seem to lose those.

I did know that Loretta Lynn was married at 15 years of age, was married to her husband for a long time and had six children.

She would be very well known in America and her songs are popular here too in Australia.

She must have worked really hard on her accent! I'm pretty impressed that she could sing in a Texas accent while speaking in a British/Australian accent!

@JudyEv I wonder if she had a voice coach to help her master the accent?

@moffittjc From what she was saying she didn't but she spoke with the accent whenever she went shopping as well as at home.

She's been singing for a good few years and has been practising the accent all that time too I guess.

I can judge when people speak where they are from. It is easier if they are from Australia as you have a distinct and unique accent Maybe, Kiwis have similar accent too.
