George did something today, he hasn't done in over a year. Walk, without his walker. At first it was from one chair to another out on our front porch, but then he came inside without it and walked to his pod. I had to go fetch it from where he left it on the porch. I told him, it's about self-confidence. When he first had the stroke, he didn't need a mobility aide. He was walking without one. and, he had his peg tube. He walked unassisted for several months, deciding about the one year mark, he needed the walker, which he'd been glued to until today when he tried walking without it for the first time.

Good job, George. Hopefully he will get more and more confident without it. And it's there if he really does need it, too.

I agree. He's getting older, and chose to use it on his own terms. I'm glad he's taking charge. I reminded him this morning, that you just need to find th fight to start. Just like he did with the van and other things.

@MarieCoyle I've been telling him this for the longest time. He figured this out when it came to driving, now... he is trying other things.

@kaylachan Yes, for sure. In the end, it's up to him and his determination. You can care for him and encourage him, but he has to do the work involved.

It was like with driving, he woke up one day and decided he wanted to get behind the wheel, so we made that somehw happen.
