I Call it Dirty Rice

It's not really "dirty rice," at least not in the traditional sense, but whatever you might call in "real life," all I can say is that it's good eats, and in the end, whatever it might be named, that's really all that matters, right? I browned some ground beef, then drained it and set it aside. In went about a quarter stick of butter, along with onions, celery, and red peppers. Cooked that up a bit and then I added in 1 cup of raw rice and let that cook a bit in the buttery veggie mixture. Then I added the ground beef back in and added some garlic powder, curry powder, thyme, Italian seasoning, and some soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce and let that cook about a minute or so more before adding in 3 cups of beef broth. Cooked that mixture for about 15 minutes, then lidded it and let it sit for a few more minutes and served. I have done this dish a few times and it always turns out really good and filling, and is sometimes exactly what the doctor ordered. Do you ever make a dish like this?

No. Rice is not a favorite although I will eat it with Chinese, etc. I prefer potatoes.

@LindaOHio I'll forego the yams. But bring on those mashed potatoes. That's good eats.

I like all my starches. Potatoes, pasta, rice...they all have a place in my pantry. I actually love rice more than I do pasta, but potatoes probably win the prize ribbon overall.

I've never made it that complete, maybe just rice with chili sauce would be enough for me.

I would not like chili sauce. I don't like hot, spicy things.

I used to make something like that when we were more people at the table. It is really good and I put in every veggy that was in the fridge.

This would be an excellent dish to combine some leftovers and use things up for sure. Although, I generally relegate that to soups and casseroles.

It's very good and very easy to make. You'll have to share your thoughts with us when you do.

I've mixed rice with ground beef and veggies. I don't make it very often because I forget about it

Rice and ground beef just go together, in any kind of dish really. It's just good eats. There are a few dishes I have not made in years now that you mention it, and it's mainly for that reason. I've just forgotten. I need to break out those old ideas and get 'em on a plate.
