Did you ever have a co worker who was always late to work?

I used to work as part of a program with kids in an early alternative school of sorts. These kids had behavior problems and weren't really suited for a regular classroom, nor were they ED..just lacked behavioral controls. Hopefully, none of them ended up in the prison system.
. Anyway, of course being a "professional" job we didn't punch a time clock and were not in a main school building. No one wanted to deal with us..
.
Anyway, we were supposed to be there by 8:30 AM, but this one co worker was never earlier than 8;45 and sometimes later. Granted there wasn't a lot to do at that time since kids weren't scheduled to come in until late in that program, but still it was aggravating, Why was she entitled to come in whenever she felt like sauntering in when the other two of us were generally there as scheduled or close to it? I never confronted her, but I wish I would have. Any Johnny come lately's where you worked?

Not where I work, but my best friend does this at her work (she’s a nurse). She is late everywhere, and that includes work at her hospital. We have an app that we can tell where each of us are, and what time we arrived, and when I have looked, she is almost always 15 to 20 minutes late. They’ve gotten on to her before, and yes, she is very busy, but she needs to get her priorities straight. She was also youth pastor at my dad’s church for several years, and every activity they had, she’d be late for that too.

I think it is a combination of feeling entitled, not caring and just not having your act together that causes that. Sometimes it is just one of those. It is aggravating for those around them. Friend can never get somewhere at the right time he is either half an hour early or late.

@snowy22315 My friend definitely does not have her act together. She has the biggest heart, but she doesn’t seem to realize it’s disrespectful no matter if she’s taken on too much or not. After all, it was her choice to take on all her projects.

@AmbiePam Yeah, not much you can do about it in your position though. She won't change unless she is held to account by someone.

I was taught to be punctual - so it boggles my mind when someone is ridiculously late all the time. I remember when my kids were in elementary school, there was a dad who'd bring in his daughters well after the morning bell rang. They'd have to check in through the office with a tardy note. This was often . . . so I finally asked him why they were always late. His reply "I am an AC-TOR!" - jokingly but seriously because he was an actor. Stupid. Daughter probably learned that it was ok to be late.

Definitely part of the "entitled" species, and I bet the daughters are the exact same way.

@much2say Was he a famous, household name type actor or just someone we wouldn't know?

This one didn't even bother to make excuses, because I don't think anyone ever confronted her. I never saw her again after that job, and I said good riddance to myself when I left that situation.

@snowy22315 - My husband never asked, but as soon as he stepped in, the guy had something to say to justify why he was late.

It's annoying. Maybe we'd all like to sleep 10 more minutes or have an extra cup of coffer, but we were at work where we belonged.

Vince gave a reference for someone once. The guy was costing them money and they ended up saying the work was drying up and he'd have to leave. On his reference, Vince put that he was always punctual. His business partner queried this saying the guy was regularly ten minutes late. Vince pointed out that he was punctual as he was always 10 minutes late.

Yes. I was an Accounting Office Manager; and one of my employees would come in late every single day. She would sneak in after I chastised her for not calling or for just not coming in late.

@snowy22315 Yes; but my boss liked her and said she would take her back. This was after she quit.

It always drove me nuts when someone was habitually late. I am an early bird.

It is aggravating. Especially when someone asks what time they should be there and then has the nerve to show up 30 minutes late without a call
, Hey, I have been late from time to time especially when traveling to the Northern part of the state, but I always called. It's the least you can do.
