Silly travelling man.

Silly, rude people abound everywhere, but especially where I am travelling.
On yesterday’s flight to Belfast one such traveller made good his silliness at full volume.
His problem was that he and his wife were allocated seats that were not together. However he had elected to not pay for the inestimable privilege of reserving specific seats. Everyone else had paid for their seat of choice and since it was a very full flight that left just two seats to be allocated to Mr and Mrs Skinflint, and they were at opposite ends of the plane.
Mr Skinflint was very cross and made sure we all knew about it, and just had no time to listen to what he was being told. By not reserving a seat in advance you are guaranteed a seat, but not a particular seat, and that’s the risk you take by going as cheap as possible.
A married couple I know never pay for reserved seats and are quite content to be allocated just whatever is left when they get to the airport. They have done this regularly and have never been separated, but they know what the risk is and it’s no big deal for them to sit separately for an hour or so. The money they save is an extra meal on holiday.
Do you pay extra to reserve particular seats on a plane or do you take pot luck? I pay so that my wife and I are with our daughter who would find not sitting with us very stressful.

My sister and her family always have to sit together. Amyra (14), the oldest, would happily sit by strangers and get to know her seat mates well, but ten year old Hudson is autistic and gets very upset if the whole family is not sitting together. I admit, if it were a very long flight, I would not want to sit without a friend or loved one nearby. However, if it saved a significant amount of money I’d put on my big girl pants and get over it.

I pay for my preferred assigned seat (aisle seat)
Thought: Perhaps we should make people take a test before they are allowed to travel.

@looeyville I’ve long thought this but the airlines would go bust quite quickly, especially if you an I were administering the test. How can anyone not know that seat 4C is further forward that 16D? Why can’t people just get on, sit down, buckle up and stay there?

You'd think these two would just enjoy a reason to be a part for a while. I wonder if this might be how Mrs. Skinflint feels.

I've never flown on a commercial flight. I didn't know you had to pay extra to make sure you could sit with your loved ones on a flight but I wouldn't worry about it if Pretty and I were separated as long as we both ended up at the same destination at the same time.

Vince would pay for us to be together but it would really worry me if we were separated. It's only ever for a few hours.
