December's plans for the Baking Club

This whole endeavor stresses me out but the students are enjoying it. I saw a list of the clubs that we have at school and it was FOUR FULL PAGES. That is crazy! And these are PAID positions because the union strongly discourages volunteer ones. It is amazing what we have--Fishing Club, Arabic Language Club, Politics Club, Astronomy Club, etc. Anyway I put a lot of thought into planning what we can reasonably do given the limited space, supplies, etc. I have to because I have to get creative. For December I'm not even going to attempt actually baking anything with the students. It stinks but it is what it is. Next Monday (not tomorrow) they are decorating gingerbread houses with pre-made kits that I ordered from Walmart. I ordered a few different versions including traditional, Oreo, and Starburst kits. They were a little pricey but the proceeds from the last bake sale covered them with about $50 extra to spare. Next Friday is another bake sale. We usually do the 3rd Friday of the month but for some reason the student activities coordinator scheduled a donut sale for that date so we got bumped to next week. Fine with me. The first 2 have gone well and almost everything has sold out by the end of the day. On the Monday before Christmas we will meet to do a holiday cookie swap. The members will get to show off their skills and it won't cost the club anything aside from the cost of plates and plastic wrap. I'm already trying to think about January. I'm considering teaching them how to make homemade marshmallows. They would have to rest/set overnight but I'm thinking that they could stop by before school the next morning and get a cup of hot chocolate with a marshmallow. We shall see.

Four full pages? I don't know what clubs there were at my high school, but I doubt it was that many.

I love the gingerbread house idea. Hot chocolate and marshmallows is a good one too. On one of our trips hubby and I went to a marshmallow factory. Very interesting.
