I just finished reading the news story about an Army veteran, Ed Bambas, 88 years old and working full-time at a grocery store. An online influencer, Samuel Weidenhofer, shared a video of Ed (with permission), after the two were talking and Ed shared his story of why he was working at 88 years of age. He lost his pension from General Motors in 2012, after the company went bankrupt. His wife had an illness and when GM went bankrupt, he lost his health insurance and all but $10k of life insurance. Their savings, selling their home and other things is how they had to live and she receive her medical treatments. The influencer shared the video, and it went viral raising over $1M, so now Ed can have peace and retire again. This is a wonderful story and one that shows those entitled privileged, who claim people don't plan well. It just takes one event to domino effect someone's life. You don't wake up one morning saying, "gee, I think I'll get cancer and lose my pension, savings, home....." Love this happy ending for Ed. Edited due to grammar etc. Thank you Siri. Hate using a microphone.

Yes, just one event can break the bank. That's for sure. That poor man has really been through it and is like the bunny in the battery commercials. He keeps on going. How wonderful that that amount of $$ was raised and now he can really retire. How nice.

Horrible to lose your pension because a company goes bankrupt, at least the government guarantee the pension here. This is a great story, I am so glad he has now enough to retire again.

Such a wonderful story and it's so true. You can be as organised and prudent as possible but life events can turn it all to nought very easily,.
