An article in the Travel Today magazine reads The U.S. State Department has set a travel advisory as of July 25, 2025 for the Caribbean. The reason is an alarming increase in crime which includes armed robbery, sexual assault and murders. U.S citizens report slow or unsatisfactory responses to serious criminal incidents. Some of these incidents have occurred at popular all-inclusive resorts which had been considered safe havens to tourists in the past. When arrests were made these cases are very often not prosecuted to a final verdict and sentencing.
Jamaica is termed as a level three advisory meaning travelers are advised to "reconsider travel" there. Certain areas have been deemed "do not travel "zones especially for U.S. embassy personnel. And, it has been reported that private hospitals ask for payment upfront and emergency services are often limited and response times can be slow.

I live in Jamaica. I have actually been to a couple of hotels. Crime is not as bad as they make it seem. For example, in my area there was 1 murder in a year. In the area I used to live in, there were no murders.
We were struck by a major hurricane, so some resorts are closed, but not all.
Guess the US is 'fixing' us because we are trading with each other and not the US

@celticeagle if you go into a supermarket today, very few products from the US... stores full of local products, clothes, electronics from China. Cars from Japan and Korea. Buses from India.

@celticeagle many years ago we were virtually a 'colony' of America. That began to change. We buy as little as possible from the US and always have alternatives, whether it is cream cheese or soup. In fact right now, there is no Campbell's here.
Our crime rate has dropped, and in many other caribbean nations it was never high. This is Trump throwing the toys out of the pram. Not a prob. for once we escape Melissa and all hotels are open, we will be greeting those from other places.

I'll just be hibernating in my home. No travel here. It's sad that even the resorts are being targeted..you'd think you'd be safe there.
