Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

Although the secular Happy Holidays has largely replaced Merry Christmas as a greeting or something you say to store clerks as a Thank you. I am a traditionalist and will stick with Merry Christmas, some people point out not everyone is Christian, and they shouldn't be forced to hear it, or it doesn't respect their beliefs..however, I just see this as kind of a made up PC thing. Happy Holidays may seem safer, but it hits my ear wrong, and I will stick with Merry Christmas. Yeah, I've said Happy Holidays .but am gonna refuse to say it now. Merry Christmas.

I do, because I am a traditionalist and I like to give the holiday it's proper respect and meaning.

I'm with you on that, Merry Christmas The happy holidays thingy takes the meaning out of the happy. Plus, why not acknowledge the holiday thats coming up, like Happy Easter etc.

Happy Holidays is too generic and like you said, it takes the meaning out of a very special time of year.

I will compromise: "I hope you have a great Christmas season." That way, if they don't celebrate. Christmas, they can still know I'm wishing them well. Merry Christmas to you!

I say Merry Christmas. And it seems like the PC Happy Holidays greeting is slowly fading, at least from what I've seen. Many stores are going back to Merry Christmas, and when I greet people out in public, most often I get a Merry Christmas greeting from them.

Merry Christmas or often Merry Yule since I lean toward the really old times.

Merry Yule? I don't believe I have ever heard that one. I guess I have heard "Have a good yuletide season "though.

@snowy22315 Yule is of Celtic pagan origin. Before the Christmas celebration started.

I understand people celebrate Hanukkah, and a few even celebrate Kwanza, but the majority of people still celebrate Christmas over everything else. I say Merry Christmas unless someone says Happy Holidays to me first, and then I just parrot Happy Holidays back to them.

Yeah, I have done that. However, instead of parroting back I am going to say Merry Christmas. Of course people celebrate other holidays and traditions, howver, Christmas is practiced in this culture, even by those sometimes that are not traditonally Christian. They often celebrate both holidays especially if their family has those of both faiths in it.

I stick to Merry Christmas, nothing wrong with Happy Holidays, but it's less festive.

Happy Holidays is cool, and a nice sentiment, but lets not forget the reason for the season.
