"Boyfriend scam"

Have you heard about Boyfriend scams? This last spring into summer I got a bunch of them. I really can't text anyone and ask if they have requested my friendship, again. I don't know what I'd call those, but I'd get them, double check my friend list and then shoot off a question as to whether they are doing it again. One time it was a yes, but that person made me look like a computer wiz. In fact, she did it 3 times in 18 months. No, these people, guys, go and find someone's picture to use and make up a story about how they have a great job, so far it has always been oil rigs... go figure. They are newly on FB. But then they need money. Not right off. They sound so sweet, they are interested in you, they have a kid in some private school because there's no mother around. They want you to go on Watzap (is that what it is called?) If that doesn't work then Telegram. I tell them I won't get on them and they can talk to me on FB or no place. I'm sure I'm not the only person they are trying it with this identity. But as soon as money comes up, to pay for the daughter's school or some s... thing. But I mess with them because if they are messing with me (they think) they probably have one less person to scam. I do generally frustrate them so much they finally give up. However, I post it on my page and on their's, that person is gone like the next day. I'm a meanie... Have you ever had one of those things? If so, do you just string them along or do you just shut them down?

Do you mean "WhatsApp?" I'm only on Fakebook to use their messaging system and I ignore people I don't know there. *shrug* I had someone claiming to be my niece who was texting me. She knew a lot about me but none of the family knew her. (I only replied to her because she called me "Uncle Robbie" which is what some of my younger nieces and nephews call me. *shrug*) She kept it up for a couple of years asking if I'd go with her to do different things. Since I didn't know her, I'd make up an excuse to say "no". Then this summer she got "arrested" and needed "bail money". I told her to call her parents. I told her I was sure they'd help her out. That was it. I haven't heard from her again.

Yeah, maybe you can tell I don't care. Another messaging system. I'm mostly on FB to play some games. I do have some friends who might drop a message in it, it is cheaper than a phone call. I think I told you about the phone call from some guy who claimed he was my grandson. He was in jail and needed money. I kept telling him he wasn't my grandson. I finally told him he wasn't my grandson because he wasn't purring. I have also got one of the IRS scams. "I'm going to send the police to your house." I asked him what my address was because I didn't want him sending the police to the wrong place. Of course he didn't have it. I finally told him that he would have to talk to my accountant - my brother.

@DaddyEvil I went to sleep at 11, yeah, the fireworks did get extra loud at midnight, but I had taken half a muscle relaxer from the doctor after the car accident, I had taken a whole one right after and absolutely couldn't wake up for hours. I had taken half of one the next day, night actually, and got back on schedule. Last night, however, my back (upper) had been hurting all day so about 10:30 I took a half of one. I got in bed and the midnight fireworks, the 6 a.m. medicine take... I had been worried I wouldn't get back to sleep, but I did after a while and then some cat thing at 8:30 that I dozed off after. I stopped the alarm at 9 and tried to decide if I really wanted to get up, but did.

I have never heard of scams related to the opposite gender before.

I kind of think women seem to be more desperate for a relationship. I do think there are some men who are needy like that, but I think they are picked up more often on dating apps. "Tell me lies tell me sweet little lies..."

Nah... no one wants to be my friend Or maybe I should say, I don't want to be anyone's online date. I mean, I already mess around with JJ, DaddyEvil, Horse, and sometimes Jim... I don't have time to fool around with anyone else.

I made a lot of friends from certain games (not even sure if some are still alive.) I also have a lot from SF groups that I don't hear from except if they are planning a get together. Mostly not interested. I know them, kind of. Those are the ones I most often see having people try and hijack their friends. I see someone asking to be my friend. I first check to see if they are already a friend (mostly yes) so then I message them about it. The people are not taking their page, just trying to make people think they are who they are not.

I have had this several times …I play along too. It’s so obvious it’s a scam. Their grammar is usually poor, despite them having jobs that you need a certain level of education for ….they are usually Drs from America working in a war zone country or on a ship,or oil rig. Usually a widow, with children at boarding school……everything is fine then….they can’t get internet so can I send money / cards to pay for it …. They don’t like messaging on fb so can we use something else ….
