Word of the Day: Vatic

United States
January 2, 2026 4:10am CST
Again, like yesterday, I learned this word from Words With Friends. VATIC: describing or predicting what will happen in the future I was unfamiliar with the word. It's from the Latin. It means being prophetic or a seer. But it also comes from the Old English Word meaning "poetry". There's an old saying, "Only thin lines separate poetry, prophecy, and madness." So the word "vatic" is kind of a crossover between prophecy and poetry. Did you know the word? Have you ever used it or would you find yourself using it?

I didn't know it and can't really imagine myself using it but I always enjoy hearing about new words.

No, never heard of that! I'll have to think of an excuse to slip it in somewhere!

Hmm. Sort of makes you want to call someone who describes or predicts the future a vatican. But, of course, that doesn't work. lol
