Well, we got up at stupid o’clock this morning ….travelled in the expensive taxi to the airport, went to check in ….was told the flight was cancelled…
I don’t know why but The Mister and myself both thought the guy was joking….
But no ….the flight WAS cancelled. Apparently, there has been a lot of snow in Amsterdam.
They have been cancelling flights since Friday ……
When did we book the holiday …..
Friday !
Surely if they were already cancelling they should have given a warning that the flight may be cancelled if the weather continued …..
We would have changed our dates…..
Anyway , another taxi was booked and we arrived back home ….at exactly the time our flight was supposed to take off….talk about rubbing it in….
Anyway, after a few phone calls and a visit to the travel agents we are rebooked for Wednesday …..til the following Wednesday ….
A slight refund, which has covered taxi fares and a bit extra ….we do lose a day as today’s flight was early morning and Wednesday is the evening …..
Hey ho !

Oh no! I heard that flights were cancelled fro some airports such as Aberdeen, but I'm guessing you were not flying from there. How strange that you didn't get any information if they were already cancelling flights when you booked! Hopefully all will go to plan next time.

@Traceyjayne I think the airlines nowadays have to operate on such tight margins to remain competitive that they daren't cancel a single flight unless it's absolutely certain at the last minute that they can't go. So they just go ahead and book passengers on in the hope that it will work out.

We were going from Birmingham. The flights to Belfast were also cancelled and my cousin who was going to America had to go from Manchester instead.
We went in store today and asked why we weren’t told of the cancelled flights on Friday but they just said they weren’t told …..I guessed that but I do think they should have been told. We still would have booked but maybe a couple of weeks later ….now they have had to pay compensation….

Yes good communication is key to everything and all our systems should prioritize that over everything

I’m so glad you are still going. I remember back in September we were going on our family cruise, and we drove four hours to Dallas, Texas where our plane was to leave for Boston the next morning. That night all the flights were canceled. We were so disappointed, and the kids even cried. Anyway, we rebooked it for this October so at least we didn’t lose our money. I’m glad you didn’t either!

@traceyjayne Isn’t that always the risk with booking holidays - you never know what might happen.

I can imagine how boring and frustrating it can be. Hopefully the weather becomes fair by Wednesday and you are able to travel. Journey mercies in advance

You asked me what to do in Amsterdam. A canal river boat cruise is a MUST! I was naughty and went to see the Red Light District! But I went during the safe daytime but still saw some things!! I didn't go but my travel friends I was with went to the Anne Frank House Museum and they liked it. There's a Van Gogh Museum. But if nothing else, take the canal boat tour.
