Overcoming an Allergy

My ten year old cousin, Iris, is allergic to dozens of things, including peanuts. About a year ago, they (doctors) decided to work with her to overcome some of her food allergies, beginning with peanuts. They started off giving her this peanut flavored powder, and about two months ago she graduated to up to three tablespoons of peanut butter a week. She’s so excited! I’m not a big fan of peanut butter, but she sure is!
As much as they want her to enjoy different foods, they mainly did it so she could avoid bad reactions if she accidentally ingested one of the foods she’s allergic to one day. I mean, you remember my big family Christmas? She had to bring her own food because she can’t know all the ingredients.
Next up, is shrimp.
Did you ever overcome an allergy? Do you wish you could?

I'm not allergic to any food. But yes, my niece's husband has been allergic to beans. Someone had once told me that allergy can't be overcome by medicines. I don't know if he is right or wrong.

@AmbiePam I'm told so, too. I don't know why some people are allergic to some food.

I am very lucky in that I have no allergies, as far as I know. I hope the treatment works, Something is obviously wrong because allergies were very rare when I was a child (I still remember when I first met someone with hay fever, I was 11 or 12, I couldn't understand how you could live like that!) and now it seems that every other person has some sort of allergy.

It is weird because her older brother had those food allergies too. Neither of her parents or grandparents do/did. The older brother went through the same food “readjustment” though, and can now eat anything. Hopefully, Iris eventually can too.

@AmbiePam I've heard of a little girl being gradually treated for a bee allergy but they gave her a bit too much and she had an immediate seizure. Luckily the doctor was right there and it all ended well but it gave him a real scare.

No, but I may not have some of them anymore. I used to have hayfever when I was young, but haven't been bothered with it for years. Dried flowers were another thing that induced sneezing in me, but I don't tempt the fates by having them in the house.

I have an allergy that affects me especially cold water hence I can't bathe using cold water since my body swells after becoming itchy . I received some injection back while in high school nowadays I try so much to control it like I avoid being rained on., using cold water for bathing and keeping warm when there cold.
