Well that was a depressing "dinner"

I ate nothing on Sunday or Monday. After getting fluid, electrolytes, and anti-nausea meds via IV I was feeling much better and by 9am I was starving. I asked a tech if they had any snacks around and he offered me a couple of packages of Saltines, orange Jello, and a sad turkey and dry turkey sandwich. I choked down the crackers and forced myself to eat half of the sandwich. A couple of hours later I saw a girl bringing actual meal trays to some of the ER patients. I stopped her and asked if I could get in on one of those. She brought me a full lunch inicluding chicken noodle soup, a hot roast beef sandwich, peas and carrots, mashed potatoes with gravy, cranberry juice, iced tea, a mixed fruit cup, and raspberry ice. The doctor came in to talk to me and saw me eating a regular meal. So what did he order for my dinner? A clear liquid kit that contained beef broth, cranberry juice, orange Jello, lemon ice, and black coffee. I don't eat Jello and coffee without creamer is a crime so I wound up having half of the broth, the juice, and the lemon ice. What kind of dinner is that when he clearly saw me eating regular food earlier. I have no problems drinking lots of water, juice, whatever to keep up my hydration since I am not currently getting anything via IV. But I guarantee you my stomach will be growling in less than an hour. Can't wait to see what I get tomorrow for breakfast! Hopefully it will be a strained liquid meal with like cream of wheat, applesauce, yogurt, etc. You KNOW I will report on it!

No hematologist yet? I sure hope your breakfast is the last meal you’ll be required to eat there.

Neither doctor came this afternoon or evening so I will be here at least through breakfast but likely more through the afternoon if they order bloodwork or scanning tests.

Did you ask why you were suddenly switched from regular to liquid for your meal?

no because I knew why. I asked a "patient experience" employee about the lunch and she just grabbed one of the extras that was in the cart. The doctor didn't order that one.

I'd go to the cafeteria and get some food. They can't stop you from buying your own food.

Why would they give you such a dinner? I guess they had their reasons but I can't imagine what they were.

I remember being in the ER and being very hungry. They wouldn't let me eat. Finally a nurse came in and TOSSED/THREW two containers of juice at me. What a crab.
