Someone needs to take the blame

@FourWalls wrote about a baseball manager/player called Davey Johnson. Reading through the post, I was struck by how many teams he had been associated with. In Karen’s comments, she says the attitude within the association was ‘what have you done for me lately’. It reminded me of Vince’s time at a private school where competition with similar schools was fierce. The two main sports were rowing and cricket. If a team won the ‘Head of the River’ in rowing, the coach was feted and revered but if his crew lost two years in a row, then he would be pushed towards finding a new position. With cricket, it was the groundskeeper who would come under fire if a team lost. It was all the fault of the wicket which meant it was the fault of the head groundsman. However, he wouldn’t be quite so much in danger of losing his job. The photo is mine of part of the coast at Achmelvich, Scotland.

The joker who built the road from Ullapool to Achmelvich needs to take some blame.

Good to see you here again. We loved the very precise signs showing a pull-over in, say, 669 metres. lol

@Ineeddentures We've used one of those wheels on stick things before today.

@JudyEv Yes. Someone with a real fascination for numbers and one of those wheels on a stick one pushes to measure distances no doubt.

Sports is highly competitive and those affiliated with it are not always the nicest people. I do not partake in any of it. I wonder if this guy has been affiliated with so teams because he goes to the one that pays him the most and keeps traveling between different ones for this reason.

There are a lot of behind-the-scene politics in sports that's for sure. Some get paid incredible sums of money for their work/play.

It’s funny how everyone gets blamed except the players! Of course, in our professional sports, the players are paid millions of dollars and they won’t be blamed…so blame the manager or coach…or grounds crew.

Yes, it's never the fault of the team if they lose. The Australian Open Tennis starts soon. I might try to watch some of it this year. I don't usually bother much with sporting events.

Yes, that's true. Not many want to take responsibility.

The schools didn't like to think their teams were anything other than the best.

What a pretty picture of Scotland. As you said, someone has to take the blame but no team can constantly win,

There always has to be a loser but some of the schools found a defeat hard to accept.

I can’t imagine my paranoia if I were the head groundsman. I’d be out there to examine every blade of grass to see if it were “up to snuff”. The picture is gorgeous!

It was a bit harder to sack the groundsman but he did come in for some criticism from time to time; only when the home team lost of course!! It was never because the other team played better.

It was quite a hike to this place but there was once a small flour-mill here and yes, that is a millstone. Well spotted!

@Fleura Our 'Irish' son was woofing up there and we were able to visit. It was a really interesting experience. Have you been to the Kelpies? That's awesome too.

It seems like coaches always have to be afraid for their jobs. Love the pic. So rugged.

When a team doesn't win, they look for someone to blame.
