Fish and Chips, by Jimbo

Fish and Chips , by Jimbo Usually, we buy our Fish and Chips from the Chip Shop just along our street and it costs us about £20. The standard is good but ...... Quite fancied Fish and Chips tonight so at 7.45pm I started peeling the potatoes. Chipped the Potatoes , nice and chunky. Then rinsed them under warm water to wash the starch off, increased water temperature and let them soak for 2 minutes. Drained the water off and put them in a microwave bowl and nuked them on full power for 6 minutes. During the 6 minutes I put the chips pan on the gas hob and melted.the lard. When the chips came out of the microwave I Dried the chips off on a tea towel, and put the frozen Fish in batter into the air fryer. Lard up to temperature, chips in pan, fried till just perfect which just happened to be the same time as the Fish was cooked in the air fryer. Served onto my favourite plate. It looks good, doesn't it? Yvonne's looked exactly the same And it was lovely. Total cost £2 for the Fish £0.30 for the Potatoes. So 2 Fish Suppers for £2.30 About £18 less than ordering from the Chip shop. I think my chips are far better. And that is not being arrogant. It's fact. I think my days of ordering from the Chip shop are numbered. I cannot justify paying over the odds for food I can produce here at 1/6 of the price in half an hour. So there you go Fish and Chips by Jimbo What say you

I love fish and chips, and not sure the price difference of our money and yours...but you did make yours for a lot cheaper than the chip shop. We ordered from a food truck that only does fish and chips and it was $16. Yours does look really good.

$16 is about the same as what we pay here on average for fish and chips. I quite like doing the chips myself, I started cooking chips when I was about 10 years old. Not only did it look good, it tasted great.

@Ineeddentures Well the price has gone up quite a bit, when the fish truck started that same meal was probably $8 to $10. That's good you like making them yourself. I'll buy a box of fish and bake them, but that's about as far I go lol. 10 is a young age to start, but that is good

Yours looks real good. Cooking at home is definitely better than ordering takeout. You’ll probably save money and on top of that you know exactly what goes into your food.

@Ineeddentures nope and I’ve eaten them only once in my entire life. That was in Las Vegas in Gordon Ramsay fish and chips.

Buying the ingredients is obviously the way to keep costs down. I bought a.25kg bags of potatoes so have plenty potential chips in the house.

I say you did really well. It's always cheaper to create your own food rather than buying in.

Thanks Marie. It was very tasty. I do not think buying from them chip shop is worth the extra money anymore. Especially when home made tastes just as good, if not better.
