Have You Ever Gone to a Karaoke Event?

Going to a bar to listen to or actually sing a song became a very popular thing for people to do for entertainment during the heyday of Karaoke. Many establishments would set aside a weekday when business was slower to provide a fun activity for patrons to do. Some places still offer Karaoke. I've never gone to such an event personally, but know people who have, and they really enjoyed it. So, it got me to thinking what song I would try to sing at a karaoke event. I'm a big Gordon Lightfoot fan and although not a very good singer could probably sound similar enough to him to do one of his tune justice. The song I would pick of Gord's would be "If You Could Read My Mind," my favorite track he recorded. Questions of the Day: 1. ***If you were to go to Karaoke, what song would you pick to sing? 2. ***If you have been to a karaoke event did you sing a song? If not, of the participants who did, what was the name of the performer's song that really stood out the best? Photo- Amazon

I would sing Jason Aldean’s, “Drowns the Whiskey”. I think I could do it justice. Of course, I don’t drink, and I’ve never been to a karaoke event, so the likelihood of this happening is low, but hey, you never know!

Perfect song for a Karaoke Night. I'm sure someone in the crowd is having a drink, lol. Aldean did that song as a duet with the talented singer Miranda Lambert.

@dgobucks226 Yes, and I love her. She was very disgruntled when that song went number one because of all her hits, until that point it was her first song to go number one on some important chart. I won’t quote her because the comment was very inappropriate.

I used to go to a little bar in Colorado City and they had karaoke there. I did finally get up the nerve to sing. The only sang one certain song and that was Harper Valley PTA. I always had lots of fun when I went to that little bar and listened to people singing.

@dgobucks226 I didn't know that Jeanie C. Riley was in on Bobby Gentry's "Ode To Billie Joe".

I agree listening to people singing renditions of songs would be a lot of fun. It takes a lot of nerve to get up there in front of people to sing. But I'm sure the mood of the crowd is supportive. Harper Valley PTA was a #1 hit for Jeanie C. Riley. She also covered Bobby Gentry 's hit "Ode To Billie Joe." Two songs with scandalous themes. Thanks for sharing!

What a surprise? From your many posts about songs I would have been sure you would have had one in mind.

On our last (and I mean last) cruise, I sang Help me Make it through the night and Sound of Silence. I realized that no one listens, they're too busy talking and drinking. It was just one part of a terrible cruise. Don't get me started.

Well, at least you got up there and gave it a try. Simon & Garfunkel's Sound of Silence was a #1 hit for the duo. Help me Make it Through the Night was a country classic by Kris Kristofferson which was covered by a slew of artists. Nice choices even if the crowd didn't appreciate it! I've been to a few bars where a sing-along broke out to the song "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond. Songs where the crowd participates is always fun!

I have gone to a couple of Karaoke nights. Good fun. Never sang in one, though. If You Could Read My Mind is a great song.

Yes, especially when the crowd sings along with the person.

I have never been to one. If I ever did. I would not sing because I can't sing.

I can understand that. You need confidence or and I don't care attitude to get up there and sing. Or maybe a drink or three.

I would love to go to a Karaoke night but doubt I would have the guts to get up and sing. But, back in the good old days I probably would have gotten up and sung but I don't know which sing I would pick,

How about Cyndi Lauper's song "Girl's Just Want to Have Fun." After all, that what Karaoke is all about.
