How many languages can you speak ?

I obviously speak English ….although some would say gobbledegook was my first language ! When I was at school we learnt French ….it was a long time ago and I only went to France about 6 years ago so I have forgotten all but a few random words. I do know sign language though. I trained as a Nursery Nurse ….now called Teaching Assistant ! I had always wanted to work with hearing impaired and I was lucky enough to get a position doing just that in an Infant school. I learnt BSL …..British Sign Language, but we actually used SSE ….sign supported English. Anyway, how many languages do you speak ….and why did you learn the additional languages ?

Greek is not at all easy. I tried and renounced to go on. I am trying German from many years, but I am still far from being able to have a conversation.

My British colleague told me years ago about learning Greek and why he had to give up soon. "No" is "??? - Óchi". He was worried he would have problems with that as it sounded "OK"!

English is the official language in our country so yeah, I speak that language. I speak two languages from this country, the Filipino and Hiligaynon languages. When I was a university freshmen student I learned Spanish, it was mandatory in my course. Spanish used to be the official language in this country. Currently learning French for no reason at all.

I took four years of French classes when I was in school but have forgotten most of it now. I speak and understand English. I can understand some Spanish if the person talking to me speaks slowly.

I learnt French and German at school and brushed up on my French when we visited there a few years ago.

I took Latin in high school. I should have taken French. I used to speak a bit of Italian but not anymore. It's English for me.

I know about thirty words in Spanish, and that is it. It’s all English with me, unfortunately. My sister taught high school Spanish so at least she knows what people say around here (since Spanish is our second most widely spoken language in the United States). Hudson even knows more Spanish than I do! Mindy is teaching Spanish to her oldest (they are homeschooled), and he overhears, so he has it memorized too.

English but I studied Spanish and French. I do understand some Spanish if it is slow enough..or limited to a few words. It Is prevalent in our culture.

Italian is my native language. I speak French because I lived 31 years in the south of France. I speak English and Spanish quite fluently and a bit of German.

I speak five languages with varying degree of proficiency. Apart from English, I can speak three Indian languages. I am fluent in Indonesian too as I worked in that country for five years. That was forty years ago, and English was really foreign to them.

That’s very good. Did you go to classes to learn them or pick them up whilst talking and being around folk speaking the languages. ?
