Is there no end to the madness?

I used to try to always give people the benefit of the doubt. I like to think most people are kind and empathetic. I'm a grown woman, a mother, a grandmother. I've seen a lot of life, met a lot of people. I know there are bad people out there, of course. As you go through life, you never stop learning. You just hope you don't have contact with the bad ones. We all know about the ICE shootings that occurred recently in Minneapolis. If you don't know, you need to read up on it all and learn. It's a powder keg, and it's not a good thing. It's been lit, and the fire isn't going out. Today, a good friend went to a memorial for Alex Pretti. She lives in St. Petersburg, Florida. The memorial was well attended but there was no huge loud crowd, etc. It was at the VA (veteran's administration) for those of you who might not know what that is. Alex worked as a nurse in Minneapolis, at the VA hospital there, so it was a fitting place to honor his life and dedication to the veterans he cared for. (My friend is a nurse, and has worked with veterans, so this hit home hard with her.) The little service was short and held outside. And all during the service, cars drove by with people screaming at the people honoring his life. Screaming how he deserved to die, they deserve to die for being there, anything and everything ugly that could be said, was screamed. They ended the service and went to their cars. The cars had to be led out/escorted out of the VA area for safety. The man they were honoring is dead now. What good was done by screaming hateful things and trying to dishonor someone like this? Where is our decency? Our kindness, our empathy? And just what does this type of behavior accomplish? I am ashamed of some of our citizens. My heart hurts.
