Long ago, I was a collector, not a hoarder, but someone who enjoyed having several of things I loved. At one point, I collected owl figurines after raising two real owls before Fish & Wildlife stepped in. I collected teapots too, especially antiques, back when I had a big house where everything could be displayed beautifully instead of feeling cluttered. I once had a full library in my home, over 3,000 books, including many old and first editions. I even loaned books and games out to fellow neighbors as well. All of us lived far from the nearest library. For a while, I collected antique plows, horseshoes, and other farm relics and used them as garden and outdoor decor. I had horses but never collected a lot of horse stuff other than horse shoes, old saddles and the like. I still have my grandpa's bosal. Now that I temporarily live in a travel trailer, I don’t really “collect” anymore. If something special crosses my path, usually a vintage brooch or a small piece of jewelry, I might bring it home, but that’s about it. Lately though… I seem to have developed a fondness for fun hats. Not practical caps (though I do have beanies with my hosting emblem, my hosting state park cap, and one from Alaska), but the silly, playful, personality-filled kind. My bedroom in the house will eventually be an eclectic mix of Victorian and French toile, so the hats won’t be on display out in the open. I’m planning a creative way to store and display them inside my closet instead. I only have three “fun” ones so far, but I suspect a few more may catch my eye down the road. The fun furry topped one I bought last week and the "Pretty" one I bought yesterday. My son gave me the "Drink More Coffee." Funny how collecting never really leaves. It just changes size, shape, and meaning. Do you collect anything, or did you once and then let it go? I’d love to hear your story.

I remember collecting little angel figurines and bells before.

I used to collect Beswick horses and have quite a lot of them but now I don't know what to do with them. I'd really like to get rid of them before I die so someone else doesn't just take them to an op shop.

I am a minimalist and collect nothing. I don't like clutter. Former hubby (now deceased) collected baseball caps and a dozen other things.
