I’m covering a class on my prep. Unfortunately it is the ESL class I covered a couple of months ago. They are all speaking to each other in Spanish. I have absolutely no clue what they are talking about. They could be planning to murder me for all I know. The feeling is unsettling. Oh well. It is $45.

Shirley, you know some Spanish by now... Only worry if you hear something that sounds like 'assasinato' Just say 'en Ingles por favor'

You know they make these Apple EarPods now that translate live conversations for you.

That would make me a bit paranoid too.

I was helping a Turkish lady with her English once. We got invited to a party but we were the only ones speaking English. It was a good lesson in how difficult it is for those who don't speak whatever language is being used. Like you, we felt quite unsettled and uncomfortable.

I am not sure I could handle an hour of not understanding a word they said. Don't they know ANY English? You would think they should try to communicate, but hey, I am not a teacher. I taught some food safety classes at several local colleges for a time, and Sunday school for little children, but that's the extent of my teaching, with the exception of my own children. I would be so frustrated.

They can speak varying amounts of English but when they are talking to each other they use Spanish.
