Not sure if this is a thing in other countries , as it is in the UK. Here we can be called up to do Jury Service and it can be a pain to try to get out of…..if you want to. I’m sure there is age restrictions ….im sure if someone knows they will tell us …. Anyway, I have never been called to go Jury Service…..thank goodness. I admit I would like to sit in court hearing the cases and pleas but I would not like to be a person to say innocent or guilty…..I wouldn’t want to get it wrong and send an innocent person to jail or let a true criminal go free. So have you ever done Jury Service or ……would you like to ?

Yes I have. It was for a rape trial. We found the guy guilty. I'm not sure how many years he got in jail. I was also on a Grand Jury. Both of those times were many years ago.

I had to go to jury duty once but was released because I knew the person that was on trial. Thank goodness. I wouldn't want to serve on one either for the same reasons that you have.

@Traceyjayne It was someone that I had met through a friend but still I couldn't be on the jury. That was fine with me.

When I was 25, I was called to jury duty, but although I was up in the box getting questioned, I didn’t ultimately get chosen. It was about receiving stolen property. Anyway, it was a good thing I didn’t get picked because at the end of the day, my back was killing me. I had known my back would get me out of it, but I was intrigued, and wanted to see what it was like. My dad got called for jury duty last year for the first time ever, and then again this year. The first one was a civil trial, and he didn’t get chosen. This year though, during the process of putting a jury together, the charges were dismissed. In theory, I’d like to do my duty to be on a jury. In reality, my health would never hold up.

@traceyjayne I did it. Was selected for two cases the first of which was stupid. One man said another man hit him, the other said he didn’t. Both admitted they were very drunk at the time. Second case was a rape and the poor girl took cold feet at the last minute and withdrew. But we got to see the accused who was a smarmy looking greaseball and I concluded that he was guilty without hearing any evidence which is quite worrying.

I did last year. The jury selection process was excruciatingly time-consuming and boring but the judge let us use our phones as long as we weren't recording anything. The trial and deliberation process was interesting. I'd be happy to do it again since it got me out of work and I still got paid. hahaha

We have it here, too. We just use the word 'duty'. I once got a letter, but was permently exempt because I'm disabled, and wouldn't be able to actually handle it. My husband was also called to serve, but we got my doctor to get him out of it, because he helps me around . Now roles are reversed.

It's called Jury Duty in the US and I've been tagged twice for it. Since I can't see to get there, my doctor always gets me excused. I don't want to say if someone is guilty of a crime or not.

I have been called multiple times, but never made it far enough to be chosen.

Yes; and I served on a jury once. It was a child abuse case.

You will get called. I would bet my house on it. Hope you don't get a trial that lasts 6 weeks I am exempt. Because I am a carer.

@Traceyjayne I wouldn't have wanted to do it. Mind you There are 65 million folks in England You might go your whole life and not get called

It is not being done here in my country but I do have the same thoughts as yours when it comes to jury service. I like to watch a trial but I do not want to be put in a position where I will have to decide if a person is guilty or not.
