I saw this on a commercial (it is RX only), and it’s a simple blood test for people ages 50 to 84 that detects 50+ kind of cancers (including hard to detect ovarian, liver and pancreatic). It is not meant to take the place of other screening tests like mammograms or colonoscopies, but just be an added tool for early detection. It is a $689 test right now if your insurance doesn’t pay for it.
It’s an encouraging step towards early detection.

I wonder if it's available in Canada...

This is great. I didn't know they had this to offer. My daughter always jokes that the future is here, and I guess it is.

That is good to hear. They are coming up with so many new medical things.

I like that idea a lot. I would pay for the test myself if it wasn't covered.

I am glad to see a lot more "simpler" tests for early detection.
The ColoGuard is probably the one that comes to mind the most. For an at home test. Although collecting a stool sample and mailing it, does sound a little like biological warfare when you really think about it.

@AmbiePam I have watched people have to drink it, and it looks horrible. Chris mom did it a few months ago.

I don't think it would be worth it, because it could come up with false positives and then you are out 700 bucks or would probably have a major hassle recouping the money.

I read more about it, and it had a pretty good record. But then it would have to be pretty effective for doctors to prescribe it. Still, it’s from Cologuard, and that’s not foolproof either. My BIL does Cologuard and I think the margin of error is still 6%, which is a lot if you think about it. It used to be even higher than that.

@AmbiePam Yeah, they made progress. I think it used to be 14 percent.

I have a lot of questions about it…false positives or negatives? “High risk” people (people with family histories of things) eligible?
I’d probably much rather trust a similar test from my doctor. Still, it is an advancement in early detection, I’m not discounting that!

More and more I realize that some people never, ever go to a doctor unless they have a dire emergency. When there are ways to get around it and do things privately, they usually opt for that. Maybe this will help them, time will tell.
As you said, any added tool to detect cancer is welcome.
