Help For Brittle Nails

Today @Marilynda1225 wrote about her nails and I thought I would post some information about nutrients we need to have stronger nails. Here is what I found:
Nails are made of keratin. When the body is low in protein it has a hard time producing enough and this leaves the nails weaker and prone to splitting. Our bodies need these nutrients and the foods that have them in to make stronger nails:
Protein - eggs, lean meat, fish, Greek yogurt, lentils and chickpeas.
Biotin (Vitamin B7) - found in eggs, avocados, spinach, almonds and peanuts.
Omega 3 rich foods - Walnuts, algal oils (a plant based source for vegetarians) flaxseeds and chiaseeds, salmon and other fatty fish.
Iron - Spinach, poultry and red meat, beans and lentils, quinoa and fortified cereals.
Zinc - Pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, cashews and almonds, oysters.
Vitamin C - Citrus fruit such as oranges and grapefruit, strawberries, bell peppers, broccoli and Brussel sprouts.

Yes we had lovely apricot oil for nails in beauty school.

I used to use Sally Hansen brand polish that was to help harden nails.

I have very hardy nails. I eat a lot of these foods, especially the nuts!!! And I take flaxseed oil for my dry eyes.

Yes, the nuts seem to be good for several of the nutrients.

Thanks for this post. It gave me a great guideline for what I need to add to my diet. I do eat many foods listed but maybe just not enough. I'm willing to try adjusting my diet and hope it helps. Thanks again for posting this. Hope it helps others too
