Blizzard in NYC

Snow, blizzard

We had a blizzard in NYC from Sunday to Monday. Some places got at least 20 inches of snow. Winds were howling. Everything was beautiful when I looked out the window. When I went downstairs today and looked at my balcony, I noticed that it was packed with a lot of snow. The snow covered up most of the balcony. I wasn’t sure if the balcony would hold up to all the weight. After breakfast, I had to go shovel the porch, stairs, and front of my house. It was very challenging. The snow on the porch was high. The front storm door would not open. With some effort I was able to slightly open the door enough to squeeze a broom through the opening, which I used to try to get the snow away from the door. After some effort, I was able to get the door to move wide enough to squeeze through it. After that I used my broom to get the high pile of snow off the porch and steps, and then I used the shovel to remove the snow from the ground. The snow was almost up to my knees. The neighbor’s car across the street was all covered in snow. The roads have not been cleaned by the city and there’s no way to get out onto the road and walk. I have no idea when the roads will get cleared but for now I cannot go anywhere. Will see what’s gonna happen tomorrow.

I shoveled some snow yesterday. Couldn’t do everything cause it was too much to do. Noticed a giant icicle hanging from the roof of my house. I hope it’s not gonna fall and damage anything. They’re also a lot of icicles on the other side of my house.

@Ineeddentures our road was partially cleared but they created a barrier that I have to shovel now.

@lovebuglena The icicles will fall on the ground and not harm anything Lena. You take it easy with the shovel

The picture I posted is a view from my porch. You can’t see the road at all. I wonder when they’ll finally clear it enough at least for people to be able to get out. I cleared a small path from my porch to the road up to the neighbor’s car to the left of me, but I bet once they send some plow to clear the road whatever I shoveled is probably gonna get blocked with snow again.

@MarieCoyle she did a little bit herself yesterday and then two Asian boys knocked on her door asking if she needs help shoveling so she let them take over. They charged her $150.

@lovebuglena It's best not to try to tackle a lot of snow at one time. Do some, take a break, then some more. The news labeled your big snow out there as a ''heart attack snow'' as it's a heavy snow. Does your mother have someone to shovel her snow?

At least you're safe and warm in your house. I was beginning to worry when you hadn't posted on myLot today.

It’s 67 in my house, but I like it that way. We’ve just had a snowstorm January 25th and that snow had not fully vanished and now we have all the other snow on top of it. It’s crazy. The city is asking regular people to help them shovel snow. Wow! I wonder how those people are even able to get to the local department of sanitation location to sign up if a lot of roads have not been cleared of snow.

@lovebuglena I suspect people will just start shoveling at their own houses and work their way down the block shoveling snow. No signing up needed.

@DaddyEvil I’m wondering, regardless of who removes the snow, where it’s gonna go… Good thing I have enough food at home without needing to go anywhere for the foreseeable number of days.

They cleared the road by my house. Not sure about further down. I haven’t tried venturing out of my street yet.

The blizzard is over now but there’s a lot of snow on the ground. I wasn’t able to venture out anywhere so I don’t know how it is once I get out of my community but here it’s too much snow. And we also have icicles. Hopefully they won’t fall on anybody.

I just seen that you folks got blasted with snow They said that it's best to just stay home & not even bother trying to get on the roads cause it's just slap covered & will take a little bit to get them cleared.

It is interesting, but our mayor said that public schools are open today for in person learning. I wonder how all the kids got to school. Many probably had to miss it.

Stay home and stay safe until they clear the roads.
