I Have a Weird Question...

Have you noticed that pasta usually tastes better the day after you make it? I always stick leftovers in the fridge and then eat more of it the next day. It always tastes better, more flavorful, the second day and I don't know why.
I made four cheese rotini with ground beef yesterday and ate another serving of it for dinner tonight. More of the cheese and beef flavor came out tonight as compared to yesterday when I made it.

@DaddyEvil It works, this is how we make pasta in Italy.

I've never heard of fried spaghetti. I usually microwave leftover pasta before eating it. I can't get past the mushy mouth-feel of cold pasta.

I like elbow macaroni for a cold pasta salad. I give a big thumbs up for fried spaghetti

Haven't really noticed because we hardly touch any left overs. Or we hardly had any leftovers. My mother always taught us to consume everything that was prepared and everything that's left on the table we give them to the help.

@thelme55 Exactly! Pretty rarely cooks so she doesn't understand how tired I get of cooking every day.

We usually don't have hired help so anything left over goes in the fridge and we eat it within a couple of days. I LIKE leftovers but Pretty will rarely eat anything that isn't freshly made.

@DaddyEvil I like leftovers, too. I save time for the next day cooking.

I personally attribute it to the “stickiness” of the pasta having more time to accumulate. I’m sure there’s explanations for it, but that’s the one I’ll take.

I’ve noticed that too—letting it sit overnight seems to give the flavors more time to blend together, making the pasta taste richer the next day.

@DaddyEvil So not all americans throw their left over? Some of my Filipino friends who are living in the US told me that their husbands don't like to store left over foods.

@pahak627 It depends on the age of the person and their economic status. MOST Americans eat leftovers. Younger people will throw leftovers away. And that's stupid.

Yes, same here. I usually eat leftovers within three days and they're still fine.

Some leftovers, like spaghetti, dry out so I add more sauce to the bowl the second day.

@DaddyEvil I usually add enough water to moisten it but not take away the day after flavor.

@DaddyEvil Yes, try it. Today I defrosted spaghetti in tomato sauce for lunch and microwave it. It tasted good.

The flavors seep into the pasta; and the flavors have more time to meld.

@LindaOHio I haven't made any in over a month now. I've been making rotini pasta with flavored sauces and hamburger.

A lot of good cooks on myLot told me it's because the extra time in the fridge allowed the flavors to mingle.

I've notice most food taste better the next day, I don't know why it just does to me.
I have a pasta maker, but so far I haven't used it.

Huh... You're not the first person to say that. Your tastes are more like Pretty's than mine but you cook your own meals. When she doesn't want to eat leftovers, she cooks her own food, too.

Several people have given good responses on this discussion. The flavors meld together after they sit for a while and then get re-heated.

That is an interesting observation. I think the same thing. I know it’s definitely true for soup. The older It is the better it tastes.

I've noticed that with soups, too. But, Pretty and I often add more stuff to a soup before it's finished. Either we are enjoying it so we add more meat and veggies to the soup broth or we add more broth when we've used most of the liquid out of the soup and are still left with veggies and meat.

No, most people agree that letting it sit overnight in the fridge and heating it back up the next day makes it more flavorful and enjoyable.
