For over a century mules have carried food, mail, packages and essential supplies to two places in the U.S. where there are no roads reaching the canyon floor. These places, Phantom Ranch and Supai Village are reached only by mule trains that move over steep winding trails carved into the canyon's rugged terrain.

@celticeagle Mules have rarely been a work animal here.

When Pretty and I visited the Grand Canyon, we stood on the Rim watching the mules carrying the mail down into the canyon. Pretty wanted to ride the mule train but I didn't want to be there all day just watching the canyon walls go past. I knew she'd be bored after a few feet.
Back then, Pretty getting bored meant you'd listen to songs for hours. (Her favorite back then was Five Little Froggies Jumping on the Bed and she'd sing it over and over and over and over again.
) Now, Pretty getting bored means you listen to her playing video games for hours. (If her bedroom door is open.... That's one reason why I keep my bedroom door closed all the time.)

@celticeagle At times, she's quite a pain in my backside.
She was a lot more fun when she was little.
