Do you remember the Heinz puddings in a tin ?

United Kingdom

When I was younger one of my favourite puddings was made by Heinz. It was a sponge in a tin. You put the tin in a saucepan with boiling water and the sponge cooked. Open the tin and pop the cake out….serve it with custard. It was a real winner in our house. I liked the chocolate one ( of course ), there was a fruit one and one with jam on the top. Did you have this pudding ….or something similar….?

I remember the one with the jam on the top. I always liked them and custard just made them that much better.

It could be on the bottom, depending on which way you stored the tin.

I've never heard or seen anything like that. I suppose it was a British food and we didn't have it here. When I was a kid, mom didn't buy puddings. She made them from scratch. (Real puddings were never my favorite so mom usually made something else for me while the other kids were eating pudding.)

@Traceyjayne Yes, when mom bought cereal for us, we got free toys in the boxes.

@traceyjayne You’ve propelled me back to the 70s with that thought. I surely do remember them but seldom had them.

We didn’t have them often but I always looked forward to them when we did have one. I think it’s something that was always kept in the cupboard ….just in case….

I mentioned this just the other day. It isn't something I ate at home (my mother was a great cook and would never serve something like that) but I discovered them when we used to go on diving trips and at the end of a long day out on the sea we would get back to the accommodation - most often a static caravan somewhere - and these were easy and quick and satisfying puddings. I haven't seen them for ages - but then I haven't looked either!

I’m pleased that you remember them too. I haven’t seen any for years but every now and again someone will put a photo of one on fb …..

@Traceyjayne A quick online search seems to show that they were discontinued in 2024
