Chick flicks once a month

When I wrote about the weekly film nights at the clubhouse, I forgot to mention the once-a-month ‘chick flicks’ which the social secretary organises. These are targeted at the female residents, although males are welcome too. The films are usually light, maybe romantic, entertainment. They are shown around 11am and afterwards everyone sits down for a light lunch and a chat. It’s a nice way to catch up with other residents and hopefully meet new friends. The photo is mine.

@JudyEv As much as I dislike horror films, I’d rather see those than a chick flick

I can take them or leave them but they're better than horror films although she never subjects us to those.

It's a bit of a loose description. The Horse Whisperer was one of the ones shown.

I see no problem with both females and males watching so-called chick flicks. The lunch sounds good.

The men are welcome but some don't like the overly romantic films.

@RasmaSandra I don't think they want to learn to like them.

I was just talking with some co-workers yesterday about chick flicks. We were debating about how many females go to see action movies geared toward men, versus how many men go to see chick flicks. I argued that many men actually do go see chick flicks, but only because their partners drag them out to see the movies!

@JudyEv Men don't like to admit or show their emotional side, and many chick flicks appeal strongly to our emotions. I've seen many chick flicks in my life, and I admit sometimes they made me uncomfortable watching because of the emotions. Of course, a lot of that can be a maturity thing, where when we're younger and more immature we don't want to show our emotions outwardly, but I am old enough now and more mature and not afraid to show my emotions.

Maybe chick flicks make the men a bit uncomfortable. I can understand chick flicks not appealing to many men.

@moffittjc I'm sure you're right. All our residents are on the older side so even more reluctant to show much emotion.

I think its cool that there are so many movie nights and I think I've read some other activities. Is it all "older" folks there, or is it all ages? That sounds rude, and I don't mean it that way, but I can't remmeber. lol

One resident has to be 55 or over. Some here still go out to work each day but it's meant for older couples. There are quite a lot of single people here too.

@thislittlepennyearns It's espec ially nice I think for the single ladies. They go out to lunch occasionally as a group but it's more the fact that they feel 'safe' here. There are 157 houses in a gated community so you never have to worry about whether it's okay to say hello to whoever you meet within the complex.

@JudyEv I figured it was an "older" community. although i dont mean that bad, i would move somewhere like that in a heartbeat

A good chick flick can be nice every so often. It's definitely nice that there are a lot of things going on for you.

@JudyEv i live in an HOA community but we don't have a community room. It would be so nice to have a place to go and meet people and mingle.

Some are better than others but the getting together is always good. You usually meet a new resident or two or get to know someone better.

That is the way for seniors to live their moments enjoying life at a sedate pace away from getting involved with those that do not matter much anymore. I hope I too make the move to senior home to find like-minded friends before it is too late!

I am glad we moved when we did. It's getting more and more expensive here to move into these types of accommodation.
