One of the eye-opening things about doing these countdowns that look way back is how many of these acts are still around. Today, for our trip back fifty years, we’ll celebrate someone who’s a knight in England and barely known in America. One of my favorite songs to skate to back in 1976!
Devil Woman - Cliff Richard
I have THREE songs named “Devil Woman” on my iPod: the country song by Marty Robbins, the early rock song by Buddy Knox, and this one by Sir Cliff Richard. Yes, the guy who’s had maybe three top ten hits in the US was knighted in 1995…because, in England, his singles sales were behind only Elvis and the Beatles.
I remember some of the American evangelical Christian preachers railing against this song (and any song that had “devil” or “evil” in the title). The funny thing is that Richard is an evangelical Christian himself!
Richard is 85 now. This was his biggest US hit. If I could still roller skate, I’d be out there today skating to it.

Cliff Richard is my favourite singer , and I have seen him in concert several times, both solo and with The Shadows. He also bought out a perfume called Devil Woman. I have some of that too.

That’s a cool product. I think the only other songs of his that I heard on the radio were “Power to All Our Friends” and “We Don’t Talk Anymore.”

Well, that was 50 years ago, we can’t be expected to remember all of them. That’s another reason I do these…to remind myself!

@FourWalls There is so much great music out there that rarely gets heard. It's lucky we have you.

I like everything I’ve heard by him, but as I said he wasn’t all that big here in America.

Yes and yes. Good choice. It also reminds me of Evil Woman by ELO.
