So, I have posted in the past about the lovely man, John , who lived across the road from us. He sadly died about 18 months ago. We understand that the house is now sold. His two son in laws came today to collect yet more stuff from the house. When The Mister saw what they were throwing out he went over and asked if he could have some of the things …. Long story, cut short….. We were over there about two hours. We have got so much stuff…..lots of tools, , a water pump, gardening equipment, buckets, watering cans , water pump for a pond ( brand new, still in packet ), gas heater, mirror with an amazing gold frame, huge wall map of the world ( The Mister wants that for on the wall in his man cave )…..I could go on and on. Lots of things we will keep, but also lots we will sell. We did say we might sell some and they said they didn’t mind as long as it was gone ….they didn’t want the hassle of taking it to the tip. Oh, and I got a sign that says Welcome to our garden ….so we will always be able to remember our lovely neighbour.

@traceyjayne Everyone’s a winner then. Nice that all John’s stuff wasn’t just chucked.

Unfortunately a lot was chucked away before we went over ….such a shame ….the family were not interested in even sorting through things, it was a case of chuck, chuck and chuck ….

I hate to hear of people just tossing nice, usable items. It's better to give them away rather than send them to a landfill. I am glad you got some things to remember your sweet neighbor with..

They really could have had a house sale with all the stuff that was there ….a lifetimes worth ….mostly just thrown away ….very sad.

@Traceyjayne Kind of sad in a way, them not wanting any of the things. But I am very glad they were rescued and you will put them to good use, or someone else will.

Some of the metal buckets and watering cans will look great with plants in them….the water pump will go in the front garden, we have a pond that was all overgrown when we moved in and last year The Mister got it out and cleaned it , so the pump will be perfect for the summer when he refits it.

I'm glad they didn't mind if you took some of his stuff. It would have been a shame if they just dumped everything.

That's the problem I have with my house. So much stuff; and a lot of it is collectible. What to do with all of it? I'm glad you were able to save a lot of worthwhile things.

I hate to see waste so that's great that you're salvaging some stuff from the neighbour's house.
