Grandson and the football match ……

United Kingdom
March 8, 2026 1:07pm CST
So today Granddaughter is dancing in a competition so we had to pick up Grandson and take him to his football match. Lesson learnt from a couple of weeks ago when it was freezing cold ….i had on two pairs of socks, gloves and a nice warm hat. We also remembered to take two chairs to save us standing for the two hours…. When we arrived we found that it was only a small ground and all the cars were parked just by the pitch so we didn’t have to get out of the car at all ! We did stand at the side of the pitch for a while to shout encouragement though. His team lost 1 - 0 What have you been up to today ?

I always went to Pretty's softball games. But I was the only parent who cheered the kids on. *shrug*

@Traceyjayne I usually took the girls out for pizza or a burger after their matches. (The other parents could pay for their food if they wanted something but I paid for the kids to eat.) We didn't do something like that. I bought Pretty the team shirt and washed it after each game so she was ready for the next week. Her mom hated ball games so wouldn't even attend to watch Pretty play. *shrug*

@DaddyEvil that’s a great shame ….whether you are interested in the game or not , it’s nice to support your child . It was good of you to take them for pizza….i bet they looked forward to that.

We usually take him to practice sessions every other Saturday. His matches are on a Sunday. Sometimes we stay at the practice session , other times we go for breakfast. I really miss watching the matches so it’s been nice to be able to see a couple recently. At the end of each match they gave a little ceremony where they give a cup to ….. Parents player of the match Most improved player Man of the match They get to keep the cup for a week. It’s a great incentive i think…..and I know they make sure every player gets something at some point.

Well, at least the game was close! I didn’t go to bed until 5am, so I didn’t get up until 11am. I’m about to eat lunch right now.

@Traceyjayne No, I actually ended up writing about it. I drank 800mg of caffeine yesterday, on accident, and I couldn’t sleep until then.

Live and learn and sorry his team lost. I miss going to all the sporting events my grandkids are in when we are in Florida.

We used to go to country football matches and all the cars would park around the sidelines.

I much preferred it to standing in the cold …except that this week I had two pairs of socks on and a woolly hat …I went from freezing last time to boiling this time !
