This fella was protesting everything about the war in Vietnam but it never actually stayed simply in Vietnam, war is like a snake, it slithers all over the map. If you ever listened to Johnny Carsons monologues you'll hear him mention Iran and other places we were getting involved with back in the late 70s to mid 80s. What is so very very sad is that once again we're in Iran. Didn't we learn anything from the first round? It's sad that Country Joe has passed away, I'll bet if he chould have he would have written something about how stupid all the presidents between Eisenhower and Trump were to simply let our troops perish in foreign countries. The difference between back then an now is that many of our troops today actually enlisted just to be in war, I just don't get that. R.I.P. Country Joe

He really is no different from most of the others, they all seem to think it is ok to send troops to wars in countries many people here never heard of before.

@rebelann - There should be one rule written in the Constitution of the countries. A President who starts a war, should be obliged to be send to the front and fight. I am sure we would see no more wars.

I had no idea that there was a constitution of the countries, is it similar to the constitution of the united states?

I wonder if this is because it's America that thinks it's the worlds policeman

Hmmm, my dad didn't think he was policing the world, he got his orders from the Army and did as he was told.

@rebelann The orders come down from the top Trump thinks he is the world's chief of police and the world must do as he says That is what I meant

Here’s a shocker for you: Country Joe was in the US Navy for three years. He was stationed in Japan.

I'm an Army brat and can still remember when many guys in my school would look to either enlist in the Air Force or Navy rather than be drafted into the Army. My school was filled with Army brats back then and like so many of us they were already of age for the draft when they were only in 11th grade or even in 10th. The bad thing about bein army brats of the 50s and 60s was that good old Uncle Sam would start our dads orders for a new destination in November so they could be ready to go in January and for us that meant a new school and most likely being set back a grade because of the late enrollment in that new school. One of my class mates when I was a junior was already 21 because his pa had been sent to so many differnent destinations when he was young. I think the Army changed in the 70s but by then I was working and pretty much lost touch with all those kids.

@rebelann — many would not associate someone with an anti-war anthem with military service. Then again, the man who wrote “Fortune Son” was in the army…

Our country is always involved in some kind of war, it's profittable unfortunately

Last I heard, Congress needs to approve a war, not a Nazi wannabe.

Trust me, it takes a lot more than a mere president to start a war, congress, the senate and the president constantly veto each other so I find it difficult to blame just the president, I blame the permanent government that none of us ever get to vote for.

Country Joe and the Fish was the opening act for the Beatles concert I went to in the 60s. We never learn anything from the past unfortunately.

I suspect that it is our govenment that doesn't learn, most of us private us citizens are usually unaware of war until we hear it in the media but by then it's already a done deal unfortunately

Yup! Sang along with that song then, and right now, too. The War Machine just won't die... too much money involved.

Boy how I wish you and I were wrong. I know everyone wants to blame presidents and prime ministers but the truth is there's a machine behind them that keeps that ball rolling.

Those that make the decisions to go to war aren't the ones in their field. There'd be less fighting if they had to actually go and serve.
