More treasures from neighbour John’s house ….

So after going over to our late neighbours house and rescuing lots of items, we had a think and went back over when his daughter came and we asked if we could have the wooden ladders and garden bench. Oh , the daughter was grateful for us taking them as it would have meant another trip to the tip. The mister is going to cut the ladders in half and hinge the two parts together. Then he will fix pieces of wood across the rungs ….to make funky shelves ( we have seen this on a salvage programme on tv ). The bench….. we will either replace the two strips that have rotted or simply take off all the strips and just sell the two end pieces ….they are much sort after so we will have no problem selling them. Upcycling or selling ….useful hobby. And it saves good items being sent to the tip. What do you think of our ideas ?

@Traceyjayne this was my attempt at up cycling a dilapidated chest of drawers.

We do get some ideas from tv programmes too. You do get a certain satisfaction by rescuing an item that was going to be thrown away, and you upcycle it and let someone else have pleasure from it.

I'm glad you can think of things to use them for. I would have given them away, too.

@Traceyjayne I give stuff away all the time. I just gave a load of older but still good storm windows away a few days ago. We could have taken those to the aluminum dealer and gotten money out of them but they're too big to fit in the car. I didn't have another way to get rid of them.

Is the “tip” what Americans call the dump? I like your idea for the shelves.

Yes, tip and dump ….same thing. We have seen the ladder / shelves idea on tv before. They looked really cool….just hope we can do the same.

I think you are very creative. I remember the saying that things that losses its value... become valuable again depending on the hands that pick them up.

Thank you. The things we get are in perfect condition so it’s a shame to have them thrown away when we can make them useful for someone else.

Those are great ideas. I'd love to go salvaging in that way. It saves such a lot of waste.
