This has to be the worst promotion ever.

I can just see the guys here reading this and snickering, while most women would be genuinely put off. A lot of you are familiar with the NBA. It has the best basketball players in the world. There are 30 teams, and one team is called the Atlanta Hawks. Well, like most professional sports teams, the Hawks decided to have a special promotion. Unlike most sports teams, they chose to honor an infamous strip club located in Atlanta. A strip club that once hung a Hawks player’s jersey from their “rafters”.
This strip club is famous and attracts not just pro basketball players, but also football, baseball, and soccer stars that visit Atlanta. The Hawks said they wanted to celebrate such an important presence in the community.
Enough concern from sponsors, other teams, fans, and community members was expressed that the NBA commissioner finally told the Hawks to cancel that promotion. So they did. Personally, I cannot fathom planning a night to honor a strip club. Especially in such a family friendly environment. It’s just so stupid.
Have you guys heard of any other bad promotions?

That “Disco Demolition” night at Comisky Park in Chicago back in 1979 didn’t go over too well.
It may or may not surprise you that Atlanta is also the home of the infamous 1977 “wet t-shirt night” promotion by the Braves for a baseball game.

Not a sports or basketball fan, but talk about bad taste.

I hadn’t heard about that, but I can definitely understand why people reacted strongly to it. Professional sports events are usually meant to be family-friendly, so honoring a strip club in that setting does seem like a strange choice. It’s interesting how sometimes marketing teams try to do something “different” or attention-grabbing, but it ends up creating the wrong kind of attention instead. At least they listened to the concerns and canceled it before it actually happened. Promotions can be a great way to connect with fans, but they definitely need to consider the broader audience and community standards too.

Oh brother, yeah really family friendly there, not. I can think of some misleading ones..but not actually bad, not at the moment anyway.

Basket ball is played in our country..But I love football and hockey . We don't have a basketball team in our town. Nor have I ever seen a basketball match.

They made a poor choice there. They need to be ''family friendly'' for sure.
