Today is World Kidney Day - a global campaign held annually to raise awareness about the importance of Kidney health. Did you know that millions of people worldwide do not know that they might have the first stages of kidney disease? That is why it is best to have annual urine and blood tests to check if our kidneys are okay. Often it shows no symptoms until it is advanced, but there are a few common symptoms you may experience. Like, fatigue increased urination, foamy or blood tinged urine, swollen ankles and feet, muscle cramps, etc. Of course these could be related to other issues, so it is best to have the annual tests. Have you checked your kidneys recently? Pixabay image.

Yes, my doctor just ran a blood test and said my kidneys are having a problem. She told me to drink more water, eat more broccoli and cabbage to bring them back to full health.

@Kandae11 I drink a gallon and a half of water every day. I don't know why I'm having a problem.

@DaddyEvil Water is just one of the measures we must take to ensure healthy kidneys. Other things we do and eat could sabotage that one effort.

My Aunt Joy had to have a kidney transplant. She’s very thankful for it too.

There is usually a long waiting list for transplants. I am glad too that she got a transplant.

@Kandae11 - This is true, but sadly something may come up soon after you had been checked and one year later it would anyway be too late.

That is very good. Some people say if one is feeling well and goes for checkups one is looking for trouble. I tend to disagree - one is simply being careful.. since there are some illnesses that creep up on us without symptoms.

Omg I should go and get checked But it's not as easy as that here. Takes a lot of doing to get to getting tests done because we have so few doctors at the Health Centre and you need to jump through hoops to be seen

@Kandae11 Well if a doctor saw my urine, my ankles etc then I am sure that tests would be forthcoming quickly

Kidneys have suddenly become the most important organs of the body with fatality rates going high everyday. Annual tests are very important as you mentioned. Happy world kidneys day.

Not really I wonder if kidney function can be diagnosed with a routine blood test?

Yes it can. I suffer from high blood pressure ( which could cause kidney problems) so l have an annual overall blood test and l am okay so far. They would check for elevated creatine levels and high blood urea nitrogen( BUN) among other things.

I think we are all okay if we only have the discipline to drink enough water every day and eat the right food. My kidney is fine, and I hope it will stay the same until I die. It is hard to get sick, especially when you don't have a budget to spend for. Ooops, the moment I hit the submit button, I realized I had already interacted with this blog post.

I hope mine will be fine for the rest of my life. I think my first concern is where to get finances for that, and second is that I don't want to burden my family.

That is a real concern where health issues get out of hand.

No I haven't and I know my kidneys aren't the healthiest because of my diet. I might have it checked soon.
