Our temperatures here are supposed to get into the 60s today, but musically I’m stuck in the 70s and 80s. Let’s start off with 1976 for today’s song, and I present to you one of the greatest vocalists our generation has ever known. Lose Again - Linda Ronstadt Linda Ronstadt will be 80 in July. That’s just not possible. Dang, this woman could sing. A few years ago I saw an interview with her on 60 Minutes or something, and she was singing with family members. The interviewer asked why she had retired after her Parkinson’s diagnosis because she still sounded great (and she did). Her reply: “I’m not good enough for me.” Ah, these perfectionists. There’s one thing for certain: this is about as close to perfection as you can get. The pain of Karla Bonoff’s great song, immortalized by Ronstadt’s fabulous voice, is anything you could hope for. Well…maybe just me. This song bombed as a single. Maybe the somberness of this after the joyful, upbeat cover of Buddy Holly’s hit “That’ll Be the Day” did this one in. But oh, it’s so beautiful. Then, now, and forever. Lose Again Written by Karla Bonoff Recorded by Linda Ronstadt From Hasten Down the Wind, 1976 Nothing can save me from this ball and chain:

I think it was Dolly Parton who said there are only three REAL women singers and “the rest of us are just pretending.” She named Ronstadt as one of the three, and I totally agree. (She also named Barbra Streisand, and I totally disagree with that. You could dig Karen Carpenter up and she’d still sound better than Babs ever dreamed of sounding.)

Yeah, she's got one hell of an awesome voice. My fav is Blue Bayou and a few others of course. This one is a bit too slow for my taste....

Another one I haven't heard before, very upbeat but it doesn't compliment her awesome voice. I can't remember the first time I heard her sing but I know I've heard a lot of her hits plus her appearance on the Johnny Carson show, I caught her appearance in 1983

Not everything is “How Do I Make You,” which might get you moving enough to scare the babies….

Don’t know if you’re into Alison Krauss. She recorded it in 1992.

I don't recognize the song; but I certainly recognize the voice.
