Way beyond being over the top.

In my daily read of the news in general, I came across the ''Oscar Gift Bag'' and they were making a big deal about it. The bags are given out to 25 nominees in directing and in acting. Each bag is valued at OVER $100,000. That's $2,500,00. People are starving, they can't pay their bills. Last month alone nearly 100,00 jobs were lost in the US. This month they predict it will continue to climb. Pets are being dumped at an alarming rate, because their owners can no longer provide for them or have lost their homes. And yet there is all of this ridiculous lavishness. The weirdest thing about the gift bags is that they are given to people who can no doubt afford their own gift bags. Google description of what is in this year's gift bags-- ''The 2026 "Everyone Wins" Oscar gift bag, curated by Distinctive Assets (not affiliated with the Academy), is valued at over $100,000 and is given to 25 nominees in top acting and directing categories. The bag includes luxury trips, liposuction, skincare, and high-end goods, delivered in a Japanese luggage set. Reuters Reuters +4 Highlights of the 2026 Gift Bag: Luxury Travel: A luxury Costa Rican villa experience, a 16-guest super villa experience in Ibiza (Can Nemo), a 7-day retreat at Golden Door, and a Nordic villa getaway for the Northern Lights. Procedures & Beauty: Elite body-sculpting liposuction (ArtLipo), a smile makeover (Beverly Hills Dental Arts), and various high-end skincare products. Gifts & Products: Kabuki-inspired luggage, a gourmet maple gift box, fountain pens, designer handbags, and a shower head. Unique Items: A pre-packaged prenuptial agreement.'' KCRA KCRA +4 These lavish bags are considered a "consolation prize" for top nominees, ensuring they leave with luxury items even if they do not win the Oscar. KCRA The last item is a pre-packaged prenuptial agreement...because, you know...it's Hollywood. Oh, and don't forget the gift certificate for free liposuction!!

There is an incredible amount of waste in the world. This is just another example of it.

Waste, for sure. And just plain silliness.

They want us (the taxpayers) to feed the hungry, not them. That’s why I admire people like Dolly Parton, who puts her money where her mouth is. When the wildfire hit Gatlinburg in in 2016, Dolly didn’t ask the government to help. She personally made sure every Dollywood employee was paid while they were recovering from the fire.

Dolly is a gem. She has a big heart and helps so many. A phenomenal human!

I fully agree this you that is more than ridiculous. Stop giving money to those who do not even need that money. Help the families, help the animal shelters, help the charities.

I know what you mean since I simply made a suggestion that celebs should assist persons in need with their wealth instead of being showoffs and the replies from social media is that they are busy working and they can't do that kind of work.

I do read occasionally about celebrities quietly helping others, or donating to big disasters. To busy to be kind...what a sad world, George.
