Family Ties

Sometimes l wonder if there was a meeting of all my family members, would they fill a room, a ballroom or somewhere larger ? I know l have lots of cousins, but l am in touch with only one of them. In fact l am presently in touch with close family members only. However, there should be a hundred or more , most of whom live in other countries - the UK, USA , Canada and Germany. Maybe if we all lived in the same country, it would have been easier to get to know them. Do you come from a large family ? Do you keep in touch with as many of them as you can? Pixabay image

My family is so tiny. Perhaps because of that, we make sure to keep in touch frequently.

@Kandae11 I would love a larger, but not too large, family. Hopefully, that will eventually happen when my grandkids and nephew eventually marry and have children of their own.

My husband's immediate family, siblings, nieces, nephews and their families, are all within a few hours of where they grew up. There is roughly about 100 of us when the 3 generations gather, and we need to rent a hall to gather. But oh, the fun we have when we gather. We had the first of the third generation marry last autumn, so I wonder when there will be a fourth generation. You are fortunate to be part of such a big family, and that you are close with one of your cousins.

The thing is l haven't met most of them because they live in different countries. Even my mother was a resident of Canada when she passed in 2023.

Yes a large family with too many relatives. We hold special reunions fro different class. From my great grandmothers side, my great grandfathers side, mom's side, dad's side. Too many families that stay connected. Those from different countries would come home for such event. And hundreds would attend.

Wow! Events like that would need a big venue.

My family is scattered all over the globe, too. We used to have huge family reunions while my dad was still alive but after he passed away, people in other countries stopped coming. Now, it's mostly cousins at the family reunions. (There are only four siblings remaining, including me.) And no, I don't know most of them anymore.

Likewise when our head family member was alive, there was much more activity around our house, but in life changes will come.

@Kandae11 Yes, that's very true. Pretty and I haven't been to a family reunion in years. We don't know most of the people anymore.

I have a huge number of cousins from my deceased parents but I live in the USA and they live in Central America, it is hard to keep up with them.

@Kandae11 I suppose there is a distinct possibility that I may never speak to a member of my family ever again

My dad’s side of the family is huge as he was the 15th of 16 children. Thankfully, we are all close, too.

My mom’s family no longer really gets along so I never see any often. My husbands family kind of disowned him when he married my mother. So while I have a large family I don’t know many of them very well.

I would say medium..I see my cousins on FB but I rarely talk to them..other than maybe liking their posts or something. There is one who is a second cousin in NC who is nice, but I haven't seen her in person since I was maybe 20.

Yes. My dad has lots of siblings, same as my mom, and we have lots of cousins. When we were kids and celebrating birthdays, the whole house was so full, especially on Christmas.

When I was a child my family used to have family reunions at a park. Then when people left the state of NY the reunions stopped happening, especially once my Grandparents passed away. I don't keep in touch with many family members because once I realized I could choose my own family (church and friends) I stuck with them. But I do pray for all of my family members.
