Geese crossing the road

As I was walking home from the train, I saw two geese about to cross the road. I was standing there watching, hoping a car would not run them over. At first the coast was clear but when the geese were close to the middle of the road I saw a pickup truck heading their way. He slowed down and came to a stop, waiting for the geese to move out of the way so he can keep on driving. He must have had a lot of patience because he stood there for a bit without even honking. Once they finally crossed to the other side I went on my way.

Wow Geese crossing the road is quite unusual here and we have tens of thousands of geese in the nature reserve nearby You should take pictures and let us see them Lena That would be awesome

I was carrying heavy bags so didn’t think to do that. I once saw turkeys crossing the road, and then they were going back-and-forth of the left lane of the road, preventing cars from going in there to make left turns.

@lovebuglena You should get a little trolley on wheels to pull instead of carrying heavy bags.

@Ineeddentures if I have that thing on wheels, it’s gonna be harder for me to go up and down the stairs of the train.

Stopping for geese who are crossing the roads is pretty much an every day occurrence here. As soon as all the mamas have their babies, they will be out and about. Mama leads the crew, anywhere from 4-5 babies to up to 18 or so. One mama had 22 babies following her last year. Anyway, Dad follows at the end of the line, to keep stragglers on point. We just always stop, it's what we do...and honestly they are really cute to watch. When the babies are about half grown, which seems to happen in simply a few days, they get that straggly sort of look of half fuzzy down and half with new feathers. Then, we call them tweenagers. But they are as big as their parents in no time flat.

Interesting. I’ve actually never seen baby geese crossing the road.

@lovebuglena I went to the pharmacy earlier today, I stopped on my way to let some geese cross. I think they were going to Dollar Tree to get bargains, they were headed that way!

That was kind of the driver to stop. It would have been awful to have to watch them being run over.

I thought he was going to lose patience and start honking, but he didn’t.

Wow! That would be good to watch. I have seen geese crossing the road many times and they were good to look at. I was always glad the car drivers waited until they have crossed the road.

Once when I was driving with my husband, he had to suddenly come to a stop because chickens decided to cross the road.

@Ineeddentures You’re so funny. I would have scolded you if I have seen you doing it with the geese

@lovebuglena Surprised you didn't tell him to run them down and then pick them up and keep them for lunch
