Almost Three Months.

That my father-in-law is on a catheter, and they return to the hospital every two weeks to have it changed and to check if he can urinate on his own. The urologist mentioned that his bladder is being pressed by an enlarged prostate and that a urinary stone can clog the ureter. An ultrasound showed that there are multiple stones in his bladder. His prostate gland is also about three times the normal size. The doctor said he would need not one, but two procedures at the same time, one to remove the urinary stones and another to treat the enlarged prostate. Fortunately, there are laser procedures available for these treatments. Unfortunately, they are very expensive, and after further consultation with his doctor, the laser treatment is not suitable for him due to the multiple stones. Tough and draining months for all of us.

The non invasive surgery to reduce enlarged prostate is safe and works well. It would be better than wearing a catheter all the time, it causes UTI. They use shock waves here to reduce the kidney stones. After they are reduced they pass through the urine easily.

yes, I read that as well. Unfortunately, it is fairly new here and not all hospitals and doctors offer it. And saying that, it means it comes with a hefty price

I feel so bad for your father-in=law. Having a catheter for that many months has to be uncomfortable. I hope they can find a solution to help him if the laser treatment wont' work.
