Breaking Up With Someone

A discussion by @Traceyjayne about having an ex brought to mind something about breakups. Since the invention of cell phones and texting, people have actually started to chicken out and break up via text. The two times I’ve ever broken up with someone was in person. I felt like throwing up doing it, but it seemed rude to do it any other way. What do you think about this? I mean, I can’t imagine dating someone for a year, and suddenly you get a text apologizing for hurting you, but wanting to break up. So what do you think? *Please note I’m not including breaking up with someone prone to intense anger in which case I advocate breaking up any way you can safely.

I've only broken up with someone face to face. I think I'd feel humiliated if someone I'd been dating for a while decided I wasn't even worth talking with a last time face to face.

I think I’d try to tell myself that it said more about them than me, but wow, it would be hard to take.

@AmbiePam You have to remember, I'm quite a bit older than you, even if I feel like we're contemporaries... I'd need closure and a text wouldn't/couldn't give me that.

I think it depends on the length of the relationship, a date or two text is OK otherwise in person or even phone. The worst is ghosting though .horrible.

While I'd hate having to break up with someone, I'd only do it face to face. Any other way doesn't seem 'honest'.

I've only broken up with men face to face with a long conversation and explanation. I did get "ghosted" a couple of times by men.
