Organ Donation

I took a survey this morning about organ donation. My Aunt Joyce was the recipient of a kidney donation from a stranger about five years ago. We have a huge family, but no one was a match. I wasn’t tested because my health is so bad.
However, I checked the box on my license to be an organ donor. I have talked to my family about wanting to be a donor. Why do I need my heart, kidneys, liver, corneas, etc. if I’m no longer here? (my liver ( I don’t drink) and corneas are trash though)
Are you an organ donor? Do you want to be?

I m absolutely an organ donor, and I have the same attitude about it as you do. Why bury it or burn it if it can help someone? My best friend is actually an organ recipient - he got a liver. It saved his life, so I am very grateful for that.

@AliCanary Wow! That’s incredibly traumatizing.

@AmbiePam well since it had a happy ending, it's okay. But at the time, it was terrifying. The police were trying to avoid breaking in (understandable), but I didn't think they were taking it seriously enough. It wasn't until I started crying that I think they realized how serious it was (I had TOLD them he was on the transplant list!)

In my heart of hearts I would like to donate, but the doctors have advised that with taking the meds that I have been since my teenage years, that my organs wouldn't be welcome to another body.
I would however, like to donate my body to science, but my husband won't hear of it. He finds it disrespectful.

Nope... I have too many health problems and most of my parts aren't worth giving away anymore. *shrug*

You'd be surprised what all they can use! Besides internal organs, they can use corneas, skin, and you can even leave your whole body to science! Med students want to learn from cadavers that had health problems, actually.

I’d be willing to become an organ donor, provided that the organs are not yet damaged. I want to help others by donating my organs after my passing.
