Beef tongue anyone?

I just put a large beef tongue into a pot filled with water and, once it comes to a boil, I’m gonna simmer it for about two hours. To the pot I added sea salt, rainbow peppercorns, carrot, onion, and celery. This tongue will probably last me for three days at least as I’m the only one who will be eating it. I don’t get why my mom got it for me knowing I’m alone. Today, I have to finish her chicken pilaf she made over the weekend so I will only be able to eat the tongue starting tomorrow. Have you ever tried beef tongue? What did you think of it?

I like beef tongue, I really like, but my husband does not even want to see one cooking, so I stopped eating.

@lovebuglena - When Mom was still alive, she cooked the beef tongue for me when she knew we were visiting.

@LadyDuck That was very nice of her. Is there maybe a store where you can buy already cooked tongue?

I quite like beef tongue. We used to get it years ago but it seems like nobody sells it anymore. I might have been inclined to put it in a crock pot early on the morning along with the vegetables including potatoes And then served it up to myself at night. I hope it turns out good Lena

After two hours, I took it out, removed the skin, cut it in half, and put it back for another half an hour just in case. I’m about to take it out.

@Ineeddentures I won’t be able to eat it till tomorrow. Gotta eat my mom’s chicken pilaf first. Though I really crave for a bite of tongue right now.

@lovebuglena I can't imagine that Vince would enjoy cooking it. Maybe I should.

@JudyEv all you do is put it in a pot of water with the veggies and it cooks itself.

It’s rather expensive though it seems.

Yes, beef tongue is really delicious! I also eat pork tongue, but beef has a richer, more flavorful taste, it’s just more expensive. I cook mine using a pressure cooker so it becomes tender faster, since I really prefer it very soft. My usual recipe includes cream with mushrooms, which makes it even more flavorful and creamy. Its actually one of my favorite dishes.

Sounds yummy. I also love veal tongue. Haven’t tried pork tongue as I don’t eat pork.

I'm not sure if I had eaten it but I'm sure my mother had an idea or maybe have cooked a beef tongue before that we are not fully aware. Beef has always been the main menu may mama cooks in our store.

If it is not overcooked, it’s very tender and delicious.

@Jehanne to me, if you eat beef tongue, you cannot mistake it for another cut of meat.

@lovebuglena I asked my mama today and she said beef tongue we called it here "lengua" She rarely cooked it, only when there is occasions. When it is cooked they called it Lengua Estofado. I did ask her if I happened to eat it before without knowing. She said probably since beef tongue can be confused with other cuts of beef when eaten.

I have never had beef tongue, and quite frankly I don’t think I could try it knowing what it was. I’m sure if I grew up eating it it would sound good to me. Having not been familiar with it, I don’t think I could eat it.

It is delicious and it’s great in a salad with daikon radish and crispy onions.
